It's probably all the technology nowadays.
Also pop idols such as Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton
influence young kids (especially girls) that being
unintelligent is trendy.

i guess i can see where you're going at how some ppl worship them like gods... but there are also idols with intelligence out there that's changing the world. i think tyra banks made a big influence on me anyways, techonology can't get any worse than it was before... we're also passing knowledge from generation to generation... not losing more brain cells

ppl have diff ways of learning and may not be as good as others in some subjects. i'm sure a few dimwits have to be born every generation, such as me lol........ it's terrifying to be in a world where everyone has a high iq

Things are a lot easier, less challenging, and people aren't loosing their intelligence they are just getting lazier. They have the braincells they just don't want to use them because why should they? They don't need them for survival just look at all the dumb, rich and popular people that are the role models for our youth.

I disagree with BleusterG.

Most of the technologies today are merely innovations of the technologies yesterday. Inventors innovate, innovate, and innovate until they get satisfied with the results, then they sell their invention to the public.
The consumers of these technologies then become victims. They rely on the technology to remember everything for them, calculate everything for them, convert everything for them, etc etc for them. Thus making them lazy to think which then result to shrinking of the brain due to the lack of brain stimulation.
The technologies innovated today are misused. They are suppose to make us more productive because most of these technologies help us save time and do things faster, and use the other time left for other activities.

I agree. I know in my high school there are many seniors
that are illiterate or close to that. I could see it while
growing up too, since the more intelligent people
weren't seperated from the unintelligent yet.

Yes and no. Most of the generation is but my friends and I are more intelligent then any other generation that I've seen. Technology isn't, in my opinion, to blame for idioticy; it's our diets, energy drinks, StarBucks, McDonalds and to much sugar. Two other things also need to be brought to our attention some people may act stupid or lazy but they can just as, if not more, intelligent as us and most of us are from the USA; what about Japan, the UK, etc? Besides this forum is proof that there is still inteligence in our generation.

today's generation...compared to like who, the drug addicted-previous generation, the previous generations in a different country, or the world in general?

new things are being discovered everyday(not literally), especially in astronomy, marine biology, and even history(not by my generation, but by the older ones)

older people will always seem smarter
but that's kuz we're still young, we don't have the experience yet to compare to them(in some fields--but we will one day and surpass them even)

as for the whole "this generation is not as smart" thing, it's probably because of the media(no not the movies or anything like that) exaggerating everything little thing

"smart is not cool"----that's almost always the trend for young kids, wait until they grow up(20ish i'd say) to judge their intelligence/knowledge

but if you're talking about my generation(i'm 20ish already) being not as smart as the older ones... then that's just wrong =(

i'm from somewhere in southeast asia, and in our country english is included as a subject.
students nowadays ESPECIALLY the ones in high school cannot even speak fluent english. nevermind the accent; they cannot even read correctly! i think the problem starts with the poor educational system, teachers/professors who lack knowledge in their field, (i had a college professor before who used to 'read' the cell biology book for the day's lesson in front of the whole class during the whole lecture, and when someone asks a question she would just go round in circles with her answer, obviously she doesn't know anything! and then my brother's teacher, who actually taught her class that a 'fish is NOT an animal...' geez, what is it then? )

I agree completely every thing is being dumbed down. And most jobs now a days dont require skills.

Shop assistant, you only have to tell people about offers and stock shelfs (no offence to shop assistants).

Computer people, once you know how the software works The computer works everything out for you, in goes the data and out comes the answer (again no offence).

Schools are making everything easier and not giving anyone any challenges, no one has to really work hard and most teachers are unmotivasional.

If today generation are losing its intelligence.....It would actually do the world good...
No more weapon physics specialist, chemist specialist or any occupation that go to do with weapons of mass destruction......All these requires great intelligence in physics and chemistry which is quite tough once you get deeper in those field...

Everyday, new weapons are being developed to fight what!?Aren't todays weapon enough destructive?
Aliens!? Nope!!
HUMANS!!

But by the way, today's technology are taking us, I doubt we are actually becoming stupider...We are actually becoming smarter and more cunning....

Nope, it's the education system. At least, that's how it is in America. Not so sure about the rest of the world. But here, the economy and the war are top concerns, so people don't think about the school budget. I never hear when the voting on the school budgets are anymore, otherwise I'd vote on them. As a result, more and more material is dropped from the public curriculum, and this not only limits what taught, but how much students actually want to learn. There are already enough kids who just flat out don't care to learn, but now more of the smarter, more engaging students don't have stimulating material to learn, get bored, and then stop caring about learning as a result. In addition to all this, we focus too much media attention on low education jobs as being glamorous and drawing less attention to actual career goals.

I think one of the worst things I ever heard of was about one of my online contacts' nephew. This kid is getting straight As and is a sophomore or junior in high school, yet he semi recently asked my friend where bats lay there eggs.

yes!! you don't see leonardo da vinci or isaac newton or even Albert Einstein walking round now do you?

that's because you are in America(well, the majority of us are.. so forgive me if i thought you were in america =P) lol
but there are people that are just as smart as them, just not as famous.. because..

one, Einstein was hella smart.. lots of his theories are being proven now..
Newton.. dude, he discovered... or "created the idea" of gravity, how can anyone in science beat that? lol
since gravity is like one of the main sources of energy(or something like it)

as for Leonardo.. he was smart in his time, but people before him were smarter too
Leonardo just rediscovered lots of things, like the things lost from the Dark Ages(and Alexandria)

you have a good point, but you forgot one thing, technology, nowadays technology has made life so easy making people lazy thus making kids to not care about there education kus they love to sit down and just play there video games or watch t.v., and something that i have seen a lot is that every kid that is around my age always says there going to run there parents businesses or they earn a lot of money at a shop, lets say 1 grand a week it's good but they just don't see that if they study they could earn more then 3 grand a week, but thats if you study. plus the Internet has a big part in it, they say it's the future but it only takes up time, thats why there so many fat people in the world, no offense to them. if people would just think ones in while, the world would change, i say take some time to wonder why things happen or how things work.
