I've heard ther still is quite a lot of contries who satill have death penalty. Here it's been forbidden for... I dunno how many years and a lifetime penalty is only for 25 years... How is it in your country and what do you think of Death penaltys? Is it good? Do you think ther's less crime with Death penalty or is is still the same? And is it really OK for another human to decide who's gonna live and who's gonna die?

I'm all for life sentences but as far as lethal injections and electric chairs go.. I'm not a fan of it. I believe that killing someone.. even in the name of justice is immoral in itself and negates the ideals of "Just". We don't have executions where I live... not anymore. And I think it would be better off that way.

Welp, where I'm from we tried the forbidding for a short time. The crime rate didn't go down at all. In my understanding, the prison system works as a training grounds for criminals, where they become even more desensitized to the most brutal crimes. I think that there are people who are threats to good order that keeps societies going. In such cases, I believe that letting that murderer or rapist live, go to prison for 5-10 years, get out on good behavior, and do the same things again is more reprehensible than execution. The death penalty takes those really bad people out of circulation.

As for deciding who's going to live and who's going to die, in my state, we work on the three strikes and you're out principle. You kill, get sent to prison, get out and repeat two more times, and execution should be the final reward (after a twenty year appeals process). Is it right to say that the criminal had more right to live than the first two people he kills? Based on this principle, one criminal has the same right to life that at least three normal people do.

As a final arguement, let me ask a question. Do you think that placing a criminal in an eight-foot by eight foot cell for x number of years rehabilitates a hard-core criminal into becoming a productive member of society? Is prison really a better alternative to execution?

EDIT: I originally said "better or even viable alternative." It is another way, and something that I would recommend for thieves and other minor criminals, but not for people who kill or rape. I do not believe that it is in the best interest of society to allow killers and rapists to return to the streets, especially because the prisons fill up and they've put in some time

Actually, the appeals process that all death row inmates get is costlier than housing them. (in the US) Before we simply say that life sentences are too costly, we need to streamline the appeals process so that those on death row receive their constitutional right to a "fair and SPEEDY trial."

As to your statement, yes, there is no way that I want my money going to pay for good food, cable tv, libraries, and all the other amenities to which our courts have decided that inmates are entitled, especially not for the rest of their life.

one reason it is so costly is the fact that there is one after another to buy time. but yes that is all messed up as is most the court systems.

i think the death sentence is an easy out for some criminals whereas looking them up for life would be a better option as long as its not in one of those comfy prisons but one where they have to sleep on a hard mat and eat low grade food. Prison is a punishment not for enjoyment our government seem to have forgotten this. I diffinitely dont believe in the death penalty waste of money.

Lol I know what you mean about prison being a heaven our system offers inmates a chance at a better education than we who stay out of trouble and work our butts off to earn our right to have an education and all the luxuries of life.

In my opinion, Death Penalty should be eradicated
Ending a life of a criminal is not a punishment, for it only ends his suffering.
Wouldn't it be better to watch a criminal alive; suffering in jail; then angry people would just insult him, laugh at him, giving him a meal only once a day or just give him every food he doesn't like.... no television, no music...no entertainment..and make him solve all mathematical problems... etc....

Pfft nobody likes a death with a bullet into their heads. Torture as in Higurashi no Naku style would be suitable.
