I've seen it. It honestly sugarcoats the subculture so much. Put anything in an Anime and it looks cool, cute, and fun. Maybe that's why so many people get into it.

Japanese Otaku is too extreme

i know people that can be considered JO
oddly, enough they're halo and wow players

i have a friend that wouldn't talk to his gf because he was playing
he'd have me talk to her instead.. too bad she was underage <__<;;

so yeah, as long as they're not obsessed, i think it's fine.

American Otaku should be treated differently though(think of AO as a milder form of JO---or "extreme, but not that extreme")

how can one otaku be more extream then the other
the thing is the AO is to losely give`n to ppl trying to claim there otaku when there not

different cultural norms
what we see in japan are sometimes too extreme(like, it's something we wouldn't really do)
but the japanese consider it pretty normal, and don't really think much of it

oh, and not really just that
but the meaning of a word may change, depending on the culture and/or language

Thats called a Gosu.

that's a word originating in korea
and according to wiki, starcraft players were among the first to give it a new meaning..
but, whatever.. it would still most likely fall under Geek/Otaku, everything falls under a certain category

smart is to nerd
gosu is to gamer as gamer is to geek/otaku

I doubt many objectionable or debatable views will appear since this is CR after all but, Otaku in my opinion is just one of the healthier kinds of obsessions although it can easily tie in with other obsessions which can make it equally as bad. Those who would be considered core enough to neglect their real lives should be looked down upon.

IMO otaku refers to Anime/Manga only but thats just my interpretation and Gosu goes with games again IMO.

well, that's your opinion
but Otaku has been used for all sorts of people in Japan
many people in america consider Otaku as an equivalent of Geek. technically making everyone who falls under the category of geek, also an otaku

no worries, it's just a generalization of all Geeks
calling someone a Gosu is fine, as long as that person fits under that category, if you're unsure, then just call him a geek or otaku
