It is a terrible book. No plot, meaning, or interesting characters.

you should've read a manga... this book is not of fantasies and gay dramas you were expecting.. it is more focused on real life dilemmas

It was required for my class so I had to read it. I would have read a manga if I was allowed to.

we read it in english II (10th grade) class last year. it starts out great with this kid and his own perspectives of everything. it ended okay. i kinda liked it, but sometimes felt sleepy in the class.

The story tells of the cynicism, hypocrisy, and phoniness of the world, including the main character himself. It also portrays the coldness and loneliness of adolescence, with the book ending in a bittersweet note.

i love this book, even though the main char. is kind of this angsty, depressed (emo, much?) person. and for people who think it's boring, then it's their decision, but i got to say the plot is about this guy trying to make sense of his life. i love the metaphor he uses with "the catcher in the rye"

okay, i'll prolly get stoned for saying this.. but i hated the book.

the main character just got on my nerves. he was so immature and the whole book he was just trying to get laid & then he'd chicken out.

i have to admit.. the author was innovative and really gave the character a very real voice. and it felt like i really got to know the character.. perhaps a little too well and that just annoyed me. =P

(oh, and i'm from the united states)

I believe it's "The Catcher IN the Rye". Maybe you should check the correct title of the book before doing a project on it.

So I read some months ago, and I liked it quite much. Though I must admit that the main reason I read it, was because it was mentioned in Ghost in the Shell
