Everybody is a rebel in some sense of the word... Especially us teens. We always want to find ourselves, resist rules, try to feel as free as we can by breaking chains.
As for Punk music - and I'm not here to debate the 'punkosity' 'punk is dead' 'they're so not punk anymore' shit, I listen to

GREEN DAY
The Misfits
THE RAMONES
and
The Violent Femmes

I'm more of a heavy metal gal myself.

Green Day isn't punk....>.> Get that crap out of here!
Also from what I've heard from them, I wouldn't consider the Violent Femmes punk. Unless they're punk in their first or first few albums maybe? >.>

What a lot of whiny sods!
Punk aint dead though the perception of punk is dead, 'innit?
Today idiots think bollocks like Greenday, Blink 182, Sum41, and all this emo shite is punk.

On topic; I like Crass, Misfits, Patti Smith, The Pretenders, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Cock Sparrer, The Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, The Slits, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Hanoi Rocks, The Pogues, New York Dolls, and Sham69. But I love Sex Pistols the most. I grew up with them.

The Ramones and New York Dolls may have been the innovators of Punk and Iggy Pop may be the Godfather of Punk, but The Sex Pistols, the most notorious band in history, created the definitive punk image, sound, and ideology.
That's an undeniable fact.

Apart from them, Sid Vicious has always been an idol to me.

And no, Sid was not some idiot. He was cited as being a bright and kindhearted lad before the heroin. He was the one with the most charisma and in the end he was the only one with any anarchy.
And yes, Sid could play. Not very well, but he was sincere about learning and would have become great if not for his untimely demise.
And no, it is not proven that Sid killed Nancy. Furthermore there are significant evidence against that notion.

Punk is the shit, kids nowadays have no appreciation for a good thing.

At least I can proudly say that Greg Ginn (Black Flag) taught me how to play the guitar. If it wasn't for punk music i would probably be locked up somewhere, cuz i wouldn't of had anything as a release.

Punk from long ago is dead but at least the music still lives on.

totally fuckin agree, i just got done from recording at a place called sushifish, where the engineer is an ex punker (since hes kinda old now) and he was pretty suprised that we knew about the hardcore/punk scene, he said no one besides us that hes recorded (and he reocrds a a lot of up and coming bands) knew as about punk/hardcore bands and poeple as much as we did. Thats pretty sad. I mean I live in Chula Vista, it sucks that as of now there arent any new kids coming up in the scene. Unfortuntely I and my band are the youngest of the CVHC scene.

Chula Vista was just ranked as one of the most boring cities in America by Forbes Magazine.

punk... umm.. well, it makes no sense to me. like i get the whole "!@#! Da Poh-Lease" schtick that punkers tend to have.
but what i dont get is whole.. goal-less direction of punk. "destroy/kill/trash em all" isnt really a philosophy one can make a conductive life out of. or the whole "down with the government" ideal.

like when i was a teenager i thought anarchy was cool etc. till i really started to research what i thought "was cool"
anarchy... makes no sense whatsoever. on a sociological level, it doesnt work, simply because a "strongman" figure always emerges, in any microcosm of society, macrocosm etc. even if one doesnt want to lead, leadership will be forced on you, if your capable of leading in a leaderless society. and the whole "rage against the machine" attitude really doesn't work... cuz alot of punkers do not even follow the philosophies their music espouses. they are all posers. sure making people aware of stuff is cool. but your average punker doesn't care about his fellow man, something which is ingrained in punk music (caring about your fellow man) making them a poser.
i dunno, the whole punk music phase is dead and gone for me. i just don't agree with the message anymore. its attractive in the way communism and capitalism is attractive... but once you really get down to thinking about it... you realize its just a facade. some guy who wants to rebel because that person is powerless to actually change something.

imo if you want to be a true punk.. become a world leader... and get shit done.

I think Punk is awesome. But sadly... Old ones are the greatest, punk revival sickens me down my stomach!!

Besides, is there any good punk nowadays? Since it has been taken over by poseurs...

i understand what you mean. i really can't find anyone my age who listens to the same music as I do.
if i want to have a decent conversation about punk bands i have to go to a tattoo shop and talk to a 40+ year old piercer, who claims to have seen all my favourite bands in concert. it's kind of sad, but that's the world we live in.

i'm kind of jealous of you, because you actually found people to form a band with, i've had so many failed bands it sucks...lol
