In Wikipedia, you can find information on famous fictional and non-fictional swords. However, you won't find information on famous shields, just basic information on what a shield is. The closest you can get are noted shields that are on famous coats of arms. My question though, is this; are there places where I can find info on famous/popular/familiar shields? The only shield I can think of that has "celebrity status" would be Link's shield. Any help would be most welcome.

Shields aren't as spoken of because they don't do the killing. People want cool looking swords that cause massive amounts of bloodshed, and victory. With a shield you can't win a game, you can only keep yourself from dying.

excalibur's sheath made the wielder invincible, so he had no need for a shield.

lesson: tough guys dont need shields, except the red dragon scale protector looks nice =D

My old pally had one of those. God Vael was a dirty whore.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to find too many famous shields in history. I think the best you can is fantasy and DnD type stuff.

Also on the greek tip there is Aegis, the shield lent to Perseus by Athena, which allowed him to slay Medusa. Afterwards Athena emblazons the gorgon head onto it. So watch out.

She has a point. If we're talking about real life in the past where battles were in practice, people would boast about their kills.

"Sir Edward here has slain a total of 23 beasts during his journey here.(*´▽`*)

"hey, i defended against 4 cows, 2 bears and a tiger, and i got away with my life intact."

In Warcraft, nobody gives a damn about the tanker, defender or whatever. They simply shout KILL IT KILL IT! All people want is 'teh skillz'.

Wow , is that a pic of you ?

I have to say , you are pretty attractive , for a 15 year old that is . I love me the fair skinned redheads.

Anyway, yes , it is an unfortunate truth that not many stories are written about shields , but luckily, most of them are good ones.

Nope:

Then they carried his shield, striped with bright red;
A pentangle star, painted pure gold,
Shone at its center....

then it goes on to explain the significance of the star
from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

That , was written by an unkown author , though one of the most well known of him.

Thomas Mallory who created the character , however , described his shield as having a red cross on it . He also slept in the kitchen , and was known as the Kitchen knight, and was the only knight who had defeated Lancelot in the joust, and that was what earned him his seat at the round table .
