Personally, I didn't think it was that great. It's just another cheesy love story. I think it really only mattered so much was because of the ship it self.

so random~

I was shocked when I realized it's over ten years old. I didn't think I was that young when it came out.

I actually just watched this again recently. I was in high school back when it came out so I was pretty anti-titanic like every other guy my age (i think i was like 15-16 at the time), even though I went to see it anyways. I always hated Leo till I saw "The Aviator" in which I thought he was fantastic, so he doesn't annoy me like he used to.

Titanic actually wasn't too bad on rewatch. Nice enough story, great attention to detail for set design and costuming, and special effects that hold up well even today. Some of the dialogue was pretty cheesy at times, but it wasn't horrid.

I think it would be fair to call it the "Gone With the Wind" of the 90s based on it's scale and cultural impact (though I think Gone With the Wind was a far superior movie overall). I heartily agree that it deserved it's place on the new AFI top 100 list (it was one of very few movies of the last ten years to make it in).

EDIT: it was interesting also seeing some of the attention to detail they put in when it came to historic aspects. They really went out of their way to include as many historical accounts of the sinking and voyage as they could around the fictional main plot (all the way down to the songs the band played as the ship sank). I think Kathy Bates made a good Molly Brown, though Debbie Reynolds is still my favorite in that role.

EDITx2: I can't spell to save my life when i'm sober.

Well, Gone With The Wind was one of the greatest movies of all time, and for good reason!

The problem for Titanic is that most people could care less about the costume and set design. I do, but the majority doesnt.

i dunt remember much but i always remember that little orchestra crew playing music as the ship sank, and they all started leaving except one dude, then the rest ended up staying with him, was sad ; ;

oh and people falling sideways off a ship onto rails, i think one dude fell on the propeller thats memorable too lawl

the only reason it was good is because something sad happened, when they were supposed to live happily ever after
