The safety of a child is the concern of whoever said child's caregiver is at any given time. If a parent leaves said child in the care of a pre-school or nursery, then it becomes the pre-school and nursery's duty to ensure the safety of all the children.

At home though, it's entirely up to the parents to keep the children safe. Not as easy as people seem to think it is to do either, children being masters of finding ways to hurt themselves.

Out in public, it depends on who th child is with, but the caregiver at the time, well, of course they are responsible.

All parents can do outside of their own direct actions, is instill a sense of responsibility into the children and let them go learn. Not that a little harm is a bad thing, a lot of children will not learn about something until they experience it first hand, makes them careful of fire at a young age usually ^^

I agree angel_prophecy since when I was kid I was curious about everything.... and did crazy things that made parents scold me. Its up to parents to guide them in these stage since curiosity is in high levels that kids try to do stuffs....

No no no no no no no!! Thats just stupid!! Of course the parents blame it on themselves if their child trips or dies/murdered but it is the child's responsibility to take care of themselves and not go too far into the woods or onto the main road. The child should know about the consequences of wandering too far!!

it depends on age to me

if your kid is a toddler, and you weren't waching your kid, and they get kidnapped, it's the parents fault for leaving a toddler alone, not the kid's fault for knowing better. because the fact is, they don't if they're a toddler. they only have learned so much in their little time alive.

but if your child is a teenager who goes to a party and gets raped, that's their own fault. they should know, at that age, when and when not to keep their guard up. if a teenage girl gets pregnant, what right do we have to criticize the parents? it's the child's mistake, not the parents.

gosh, i love debates......
