KITAGAWA KEIKO UPDATES:

KEIKO'S POPULARITY GROWS!

In April 2007 I gave you guys an insight into Keiko's growing popularity and now I'm here to do it again! In October 2006, Keiko ranked number 51 for her age group. In April 2007 she climbed the charts at number 26 and thanks to recent TV exposure, for December 2007 Keiko ranks (drumroll please) in the number 10 spot! Talk about drastic climb! In just two years, with 2007 being her most successful year, Keiko has managed to steal everyone's hearts to rank among some Japan's most loved female celebrities for the U-25 age group with the likes of Aoi Miyazaki, Erika Sawajri, Aya Ueto, and Aoi Yuu. Congratulations to Keiko!

GREATEST RUMOR EVER:

Every Keiko fan knows that there there is at least one rumor out there connecting her to a JE (Johnny's Entertainment) Boy. Fist there was that ever so large rumor connecting Keiko to JE hottie, Yamashita Tomohisa. Then there was the much lesser known connection to one of Yamashita's best friend, Kamenashi Kazuya. And who can forget the short lived connection to yet another JE boy, Jun Matsumoto? All of these have been proved false (the Yamapi rumor is SO much harder to kill and it's the oldest!)

I did once say that if Keiko ever dated a JE boy the best one for her would be Ryo Nishikido (who just happen to be another close friend of Yamashita) because he's the least flashiest and looks great in glasses. And in previous post ("Chill Time + January 15, 2008") I did say that my next wish was for Keiko to work (preferably in a movie) with one of my favorite Japanese actors. Ah, my intuition strikes again! Slightly off---but OMG---I'm GOOD! According the latest rumors circulating Japanese and English forums, Ryo Nishikido is due to star in another drama---and Keiko is listed as a co-star! Now while this has all yet to be confirmed (and judging by the airdate presumed for the drama, it won't be confirmed for a while) below is information on this drama! Credit to Mannie511in the forums for the heads up and Lina for the name of the drama so I could do some research! Remember: THIS DRAMA IS UNCONFIRMED so as of now IT IS JUST A RUMOR.

Drama: Tsurumoku Bachelor Apartment (ツルモク独身寮)

Cast: Ryo Nishikido, Keiko Kitagawa (*squee!*), Asami Mizukawa, Yuki Tokui, Koutaro Tanaka, and Shinta Furuta

Synopsis: Shota Miyagawa just graduated from high school and has left his hometown to work at the famous Tsurumoku Furniture Factory outside of Tokyo. In the company dorm, Shota rooms with Tabatake, the oldest and most obnoxious resident, and Sugimoto, the in-house Casanova. With these two roommates, Shota is constantly caught in awkward situations.

Definitely a comedy! A few sources says Keiko has the role of Natsumi Nanase. It's unclear whether that is a lead or supporting role, but again, it's all unconfirmed. According to the Japanese Wikipedia, Tsurumoku Bachelor Apartment is originally a manga by Eisaku Kubonouchi. It was adapted into a movie in 1991, made into a Taiwanese drama in 2003 and is "EXPECTED to become a drama starring Ryo Nishikido and Keiko Kitagawa in 2008" ---meaning this rumor was out and about since last year and Keiko could have the lead female role.

It's a NTV drama due to air Tuesdays at 10pm. Although there are two start dates listed by different sources, April 2008 makes Tsurumoku a Spring drama!

WHY THIS COULD BE FALSE
Ryo Nishikido is one busy kid. When he's not doing drama work he's a singer in two JE bands, NewS and Kanjani 8. This includes, photo shoots, promotion, TV appearances, and concerts. I read somewhere that someone heard the drama was set to star Shun Oguri and Erika Toda---except Shun Oguri is quite a busy bee himself, between dramas, theater work, and movies. Also, most sites that feature information on this drama are blogs, which leads one to believe it's a rumor spread among Ryo fans. There are no official sites that vaguely mention the drama, and none of the actors listed in the cast have the drama listed on their official sites either.

WHY THIS COULD BE TRUE
Lots of times information about dramas are leaked long before official sites confirm it and a lot of the time it starts in fan blogs for a particular talent featured in the drama. The drama is also based on a manga that's been adapted before, so it's not like someone is yanking the story from their rear ends. JE boys are famous for multitasking, so while it make take some energy out of him, Ryo is more than capable to perform in two bands and film a drama. Also, as of now, Keiko's schedule is basically clear. And with the drama setting to air in April, (at latest, July) that is outside the three month span that DB predicted Stardust might have given Keiko to catch up on her school work.

note: ryo nishikado also played as asou-kun in 1 liter of tears with erika sawajiri.

Number 1 for 2008

FINALLY some Keiko news---and totally awesome at that. God bless Oricon, it really is one of the most hailed sources for information on Japan's hottest celebrities.

Anyway, in the most recent Oricon special (Beautiful Woman Journal Vol. 1) --the Oricon team got together and asked some people to decide which fresh faced actresses they want to watch the most for in 2008. And guess who ranks in the oh so high spot of NUMBER FREAKIN' ONE! Yeah, you better be excited as me---cause it's KEIKO! Keiko is the number ONE runaway hit actress people mentioned the most to watch for in 2008! Isn't that AWESOME?! Keiko takes the golden crown! With high expectations, Oricon ranks Keiko as number 1, judging based on the success of Mop Girl, her commercial campaigns, charmingly unique personality, and great acting skills! Basically Keiko is be be sought after everywhere, from movies to TV and commercial appearances. Go Keiko, go Keiko....

So yeah in the number 2 spot we have Kie Kitano, and from there down to 10 is: Minami, Kaho, Nana Eikura, Akina Minami, Suzuka Ohgo, Miho Tanaka, Emi Suzuki, and Mikako Tabe. Note that Nana Eikura is a Seventeen model just like Keiko and Emi was. Keiko, Emi, and Kaho are all also fellow talents in Stardust Promotion.

Television Drama Academy Awards

Special thanks for DB for providing this information for me. Anywho, Keiko ranked exceptionally well in the "Television Drama Academy Awards" for the autumn 2007 dramas. It appears that it was done by critic vote and the top three winners were listed. I would translate the entire list but that's a pain in the but to do at the moment and I only have a couple of minutes before my next class starts so I'm going to have to make this fast but just stating where Keiko placed.

In the category of Best Actress (in the starring role) Keiko ranked 3rd (Shousuke Tanihara---her costar in Mop Girl-- ranked 2nd for supporting actor). Keiko was given a special award for her role in Mop Girl, maybe because it was her first drama, she starred in it, and it was pretty successful. The terms of that award isn't clear.... By reader vote Keiko ranked 3rd again for Best Actress. By reporter vote Keiko ranked 2nd for Best Actress. In the judges choice vote, Keiko ranked 3rd. Shousuke Tanihara also ranked in these categories in either the 2nd or 3rd spot. Lastly, by reporter vote Mop Girl ranked 2nd for Best Drama of the season.

Somebody hand that girl a cookie---she did EXCELLENT! I mean, considering the circumstances, for viewers choice Mop Girl and Keiko ranked ridiculously well next to top dramas such as Galileo and Medical Dragon. *chants* Go Keiko, go Keiko...

DoCoMo 2.0 no. 1 CM Campaign for 2007

The results are in! 2007 was full of huge commercial campaigns in Japan. Some were very successful and others fell flat. A columnist on J-cast decided to ask which commercial campaign had the most favorable public image in 2007. Well I can tell you one thing, the campaign chosen did feature the lovely Keiko. Can you guess which one it is? As if it isn't obvious enough....

DoCoMo 2.0 was voted the number 1 most favorable public image commercial campaign of 2007. In fact, other than this pole---DoCoMo 2.0 has been topping best commercial charts since people voted in late December of last year. People liked how the cell phones commercials related to ones daily life in a fun and interesting way starring eight of the best celebrities. Their favorite commercial pair up? Guess! Lol, Keiko and Tadanobu, of course! The "Who'd that Guy?" commercial was among people's favorite of the DoCoMo 2.0 series. The average target age for polling on this was 17 so DoCoMo 2.0 was really popular with the young crowd! As for the older sort, people wondered if a commercial campaign could be called successful if people hardly bought the product. Interesting---how many phones DID DoCoMo sell and how many new service members DO they have? Interesting indeed. Although DoCoMo 2.0 was meant to be loved by the older sort as well (hence the age range in the actors chosen) it seemed to have only appealed to the younger crowd.

Oh well, congrats to DoCoMo for a number 1 commercial campaign. Kudos to Keiko---DoCoMo 2.0 was a VERY aggressive campaign that totally boosted her recognition by the Japanese public.

Keiko Kitagawa plays female lead in "Handsome Suit"

Actress Keiko Kitagawa has been chosen as the heroine in the comedy film "Handsome Suit," directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa. The movie is an adaptation of a book by writer Osamu Suzuki.

The story revolves around the unattractive Takuro (Muga Tsukaji), who is the chef and owner of a restaurant. He confesses his love to a beautiful part-time worker (Kitagawa), but she turns him down and leaves the store. However, Takuro later finds a magical suit that transforms him into a good-looking model (Shosuke Tanihara).

Kitagawa and Tanihara previously co-starred in TV Asahi's fall drama series "Mop Girl."

Filming started on the 3rd of this month and is scheduled to continue until early April. Theatrical release is slated for fall.
