I'm not really sure on that. IMO, I don't think music has anything to do with it..well, I don't really listen to the lyrics anyway, I focus more on the instruments...

yes it may promote suicide and addiction but it all depends on the kind of music...all the components of music have a certain effect to listeners...for instance, a fast music would cause listeners to be more tense as compared to mellow music; thus, you can compare the songs played in fine dinning restaurants versus fast foods...the lyrics of the music affects your emotion and the way you think whether your conscious of it or not...heavy rock music can make you hyper but then depressed at the same time...

thus, you should be careful in choosing what music you will listen to...make sure even the raps are clean...it would be better if you can know the reason or the story behind the song so that you'll know more about the songs...there are songs that have catchy tunes, but the lyrics are all messed up, only to find that the story behind the song is something that promotes sex, violence, and drugs...so why waste your time listening to those kind of music knowing that it will affect your emotions and thinking...there are a lot of songs out there that are clean, inspiring, and good...

Dear god, yes, yes it does. No one wants to admit it, but music has a HUGE influence on teens/young adults. It's like hahotehmao said above, there are some who can think for themselves, but others who are completely sucked in to the song and so taken by the artist that they just get to emotional and into the song and follow what they listen to.

well said..
