I don`t think so..

It's just short for "Japanese."

I think it just depends on the context in which it is used. Most of my Japanese friends aren't bothered by it, but use it in the wrong context and sure it can be offensive, but so can most words. But for the most part, at least the younger generations seems to not be as sensitive to the whole WWII thing, though I wouldn't reccommend calling an elder guy that lol..

I don`t really use ' Jap ' as much . I prefer to type ' Japanese ' rather than ' Jap ' to be respectful .
I`m sure I`ve used it once or twice , I think .
This also depends on the person , right ? It`s like calling a Filipino ' Flip ' .

i never knew it was offensive, but i only used it when talking about dubs/subs good to know now, but i guess i can understand, its the same as the "n, c' and every other consonant starting insult, but in all reality, i'd laugh in a person's face if they called me a name bc i know im not an i cud care less, plus it defeats their purpose and pisses them off, so dats always a win in my book
and i believe "nip" is short for "nipon" which is "Japan" in japanese last time i checked....

thats what the allies call them whenever they catch a prisoner in WWII

true nip is derived from the word "nipon" itself, but i aint sure if its offensive to them. ask anybody who lives in japan.

Depends on how its used whether they mean it in a good way or bad way but i dont think its a bad word but it could be offensive to some people

It does sound offensive, since in the past it was a term showing negativity.

I'd rather use full, wholesome sentences and words when I talk to people, especially to my Japanese pals, since they address me by my surname/given name. It's only fair and polite if I did the same.

i think it is far better if you address a countrys name by its complete full name.. after all it is a country unless they themsleves cut it short. people not from that country should properly address it.. to show respect and to give dignity to that certain country. wc is more appopriate
