Quiting soda
Posted 2/25/08 , edited 2/25/08
Forgive my ill abilty to spell corectly
but ive been drinking soda as far back as i can remmber
it was a real problem for me i could drink a 12 pack in one day easy
well playing a random game
ive tryed many times to quit but i always go back to it
like many things im addicted to in life
but i wish to quit soda and cigs so i can start skateboarding again on a healthyer level
and maybe do some other things that are better with my time / life
ive started drinking water , juice , smothies its the caffine i fear most
and all though i know there are caffine free sodas i try to only have 1 cup of caffine free soda when eating dinner
every time ive quit soda i get horriable caffine headaches
so i just take caffine advil migrane type meds from the store intill my headaches stop
they have already slowed down and i hear it takes like 2 weeks for caffine headaches to get out of your system
i even feel smokeing and constent soda curved my abilty to eat right
when i was 14 i had a high digestive level and formed a ulcer
my digestive acid was so high that it raised above the protective skin layer and left burn marks on the inside of my body
my ulcer which is sapose to get worse from high acid was compleatly eatn by my digestive acid and the docters were tottaly surprised
BTW my soda of choice is moutain dew
EDIT
since ppl keep saying tea i guess i will state now that i cant stand tea
raspberry tea aint to bad cause i have a fetish for raspberry
but even that kinda grosses me out when i taste the tea flavor not a coffe fan either
but i do love me some hot coco

im just woundering has anyone else tryed to quit soda and were they succsessfull or not

PLS READ BEFORE YOU POST AND TELL ME TO DRINK JUICE OR WATER I ALREADY STATED I AM DRINKING WATER AND JUICE YET PPL KEEP TELLING ME TO DRINK IT WHEN IVE ALREADY SAID I AM sorry for the caps but i can see ppl are posting with out reading even half of what i said

I think every human is addicted to something, and if there is an exception it only proves the rule ;D

Just think about it.

Coffee? Cookies? Anime? Dramas? Comics? Games? Jogging?

I feel pretty sure that every human has something they are addicted to, that they just need to do/have/etc

Not "anything"... For example, this may sound vulgar, but you can't get addicted at drinking piss. >_>

Well, my Health teacher said the fastest and the most efficient way to stop an addiction is to stop using it, completely. In other words, don't drink that cup of soda when you're having dinner.

One time in sixth grade, I had a bet with my teacher where I had to go a whole month without drinking soda. I was at least drinking one can a day or so. But with two weeks in, I started to have major headaches, and an ugly rash. I complained to my teacher, whose into being healthy and all, and he told me it was probably the fact that I've stopped drinking soda. Eventually, when that month was up, I was craving soda so much, I got one as soon as the month was over. But I guess, due to the closing of the vending machines at school, I practically drank less soda than usual. Although, right now, I have a coke in hand. =D
My choice of soda: Coca-Cola.

Yep, in HS I used to drink lots of soda, any type. But when my metabolism slowed down over the years, I noticed that all it did was add pounds that I don't need. So I went cold turkey. I still have it sometimes, but I'm not addicted to it. If you don't like water, then tea is a good sub, it has the caffine [minimal compared to soda and coffee] and it has added antioxidant effects [good for skin].
With the ulcer you should avoid any forms of alcohol and cigs, they only make it worse. The best way to kick a bad habit is to sub it with a good one [ chew gum or something whenever you get a cig craving, drink tea whenever you feel like craving soda]. Also you should NOT take too many of those meds [like aspirin, mortin, etc] in large amounts they can also aggrevate your ulcers. Hope this helps.

Try switching sodas initially. Citrus sodas (recent research) and Mountain Dew (Wikipedia) have higher levels of caffeine. After you've gotten used to the lesser doses try switching to drinking green tea. It has lower levels of caffeine than soda and you could slowly ween yourself off of caffeine by diluting the tea or going to decaf.

I'm also a 'caffeine junkie' (got to have at least a cup of coffee a day). In high school I went a year without soda without the gradual decrease in dosage (went cold turkey). The symptoms weren't as severe as yours (some fatigue, lack of focus), nor did they last very long (a week max). I probably could have lasted longer without soda/caffeine, but once I entered university, it's almost mandatory that caffeine is coursing through your system.
