What are CR points exactly? Do you collect them as you watch episodes?

Basically they are something which prevents someone from creating a random free account just to post one time (garbage/ads/spam) as a new thread, sort of a bare-bones anti-vandalism measure.

Once you get to 500 points you can start a new thread, and anything after that is meaningless.

If you have a paid membership for one month you get 1000 points, so there's no restriction on paid members.

Otherwise with a "free account", you build up points in these ways:
2 points for each forum post, guestbook post, or video comment
1 point for voting in a poll
3 points for having a verified email
5 points for having an avatar
5 points for completing your profile (bday, loc, headline...)
2 points for each photo in your gallery

So it takes a pretty long time of being a "good community person" to get to 500... After that, they are just a sort of way to tell how active someone is on the site and/or roughly how long they have been a paid member. But they really don't mean anything else and can't be used for anything else, so pretty much not worth worrying about...

I've just read the rules for posting on CR Forums. Why do only Premium Members have the privilege of suggesting "Anime/Drama/Music"?

My guess is that it's just one of the perks for supporting the site. Kind of a "thank you" from CR.

It seems logical to me that you, a paying member, would carry more weight than me, a non-paying member. By paying for a membership, you're putting your money to work and CR recognizes your financial commitment by giving you additional weight as to the future content direction of CR (or potential direction).

People who pay for "premium" content on web-sites generally stick around longer and want to see the site prosper and improve. Therefore, your voice is important to CR.

FYI ... most companies tend to listen to their paying customers vs. transient non-paying bandwidth sucking leechers.

My guess.

@Hairbelly: Thank you for your reply. Actually, I must have misinterpreted CR's rule. I know CR doesn't take anime requests, either from premium members or "bandwidth sucking leechers," lol. I'd read the rule as, only Premium Members may suggest which anime/drama/music to watch/listen to on the forums. That seems a bit restrictive.

Yeah, anyone, paying or non-paying, can chat about shows in the forum, but CR will only listen to paying members' suggestions about what content they'd like to see here. There's a thread for Anime/Drama suggestions in the "CR Premium Members" forum.

I was a Premium member in the past. I plan to re-subscribe in the future.

My guess on it is partially the same, paying gives your suggestion the weight of commitment, and that's where they make their actual revenue over and above costs of operation. Free users getting commercials just roughly breaks even (according to an ANN article I read, at least).

But also, paying members tend to become more informed about the way CR and the rest of the industry works, or doesn't work, (a big generalization, I know; it isn't always true), so that their suggestions tend to be a bit more "possible". Free users (and again, this is just a broad generalization) that I have seen asking for titles in the "regular" forums (where it does no good), seem to always want CR to carry (the same) titles which have already been swooped up and are already licensed by Funimation, Viz,TAN, etc. So limiting suggestions to members somewhat whittles down the flood of requests they would otherwise get, and in theory, provides more signal than noise to make better decisions with.

At least, that's my take on it. I could be mistaken.

Is that back in place? Because I remember for a while at least (within the last 6 months), people with less than 10 cr points were making lots of threads.

I have no way to test that, but it is supposed to be. I had even heard of users not being able to start a new post in the help forum without enough points, which needed to be fixed. Maybe something got crossed up there... But anyone can reply in an existing thread, just not supposed to be able to create a new topic.

In short, voice actors cost lots of money and production time, and that isn't the game that CR plays. They are in it to get the most shows each season legally, and to have them available for streaming the soonest after air time in Japan that the original production company allows them to do it per the licensing agreements. Subbing is the quickest and cheapest way to accomplish that.

CR acquires most of their shows as simulcasts, like 32 new shows this season alone (plus 9 more ongoing series that continued into this season). Companies that have dubs, like Funimation, Viz etc only pick up a few shows each season. Funi only grabbed 4 this time and Viz only one. And even those companies provide the simulcasts subbed at first and get them dubbed later. That's a lot of added expense and production to accomplish, which CR forgoes so that they can get a ton more new shows each season instead.

There is a very short list of english language shows available on the site here, but for the most part everything is just subbed: /forumtopic-788825/crs-english-dubbed-anime

I'm not familiar with the PS3, but I will say that I'm a non-Premium member and my account links & syncs with my iPad (via the iPad App) with no problems. It's just my viewing history and queue. Not what I post on the forums here.

If you don't receive an educated answer here, try posting in the PS3 forum:

Cheers.
