Oh no not creating a gif, just putting a gif, because when I save a gif in my computer it's just a picture of the gif.

What's a reasonable age to introduce kids to reading subtitles? I didn't start watching subtitled stuff until my teens, and that was a long time ago so I don't have a good sense of how much younger would have been okay. I'm preparing gifts for some younger relatives--some of whom I'm sure would be find with subtitles, but others, not so much. What do you think? How old were you when started watching subtitles? Do you have kids or personal memories about comfort level reading them?

I think it goes w/out saying, each kid is different, but also, I think it would depend on the show itself. Like if it's a barney the dinosaur kind of show, then I think any kid could watch it (though, I'm thinking it probably won't be as enjoyed as much). Also, for really young kids (those in elementary school), I think it might be good to keep in mind that it might be kinda difficult for some of them since (depending on the show) they may need to be able to read kinda fast, and some may or may not be able to do that yet. I remember when I was in 1st grade (about 6 years old then?), the class was separated by reading ability, and I was in level 2 since I couldn't read as well and/or as fast as those in level 1. The me back then probably wouldn't be able to handle almost any of these shows currently here on CR, lol, and not just because I wouldn't be able to read fast enough, but I probably wouldn't be able to fully comprehend the complexities of the plots. By about age 9 (which is like a 4th grader) or so, I think I would've been able to handle a good amount of subbed shows since I think that was about when I started heavily playing RPG games (hours and hours worth), which obviously, have blocks and blocks of on-screen text, and I didn't have any trouble reading thru them.

To be honest, though, I can't remember the earliest time I watched a subtitled show... I know I've watched some dubbed anime shows as early as 4 or 5, and a bunch of those from Sci-fi Saturday Anime back in the 90s when I was in elementary/grade school, although I can't recall if any of those were actually subbed. But even if they were, I know I would've attempted to watch them anyway since to me, as long as it was anime, I was almost always on-board, since even at a young age, I was obsessed with it! XD I do remember back when I was about 14 or 15 was about when I started watching a lot of... er... fansubs... I know those definitely had subtitles for sure, and I didn't mind them and was certainly comfortable with them! XD

Thanks! That's along the lines of what I was assuming. One of the young folks in question is 8, and above average in reading skill for her age, but I think it might still be a little early for her, so I'm probably better off giving something for which there is also a dubbed option.

Yeah, not so much about subtitles exactly, but from a state of having once been a male adolescent (oh so many years ago), I think I was about 13 or 14 before I suddenly had the epiphany that other people had emotions and viewpoints too, and that it is possible to see the world through "other eyes".

In general, girls probably experience that maturity somewhat earlier than boys, and it certainly is still an individual thing regardless of gender, so exceptions will exist either way, but the reason I bring that up is that the whole sub vs dub argument (in my own personal viewpoint) comes down to that, i.e., whether you have the self-realization that a different culture sees the world differently and expresses themselves in a different way than what your own (possibly merely nationalistic) internalization happens to be. If someone isn't ready and can't see it, the nuance of watching subs without the ability to see and hear more in the intonations and interactions than just what is in the scripted words, will probably detract from enjoying the show. Although, that in itself might just lead to a learning experience after all...

Are u asking about "Adding Buddies" to your "Buddies" list on your profile? If so, all u have to do is go to their profile (by clicking on their avatar or user name), and on the left hand side, just click on the "Add Buddy" link, which will send a request notification to that person, and that person will then be free to accept or reject your "buddy" request.

One of the best way is to jump into the Anime show discussions (if you're an anime fan) or the Manga discussions (if you're a manga fan) and chat it up with like minded fans. Dive it, quote other people when they post something you agree with or would like to expand upon, and spark up a conversation. You'll be surprised how quickly you can make friends that way.

Don't be discouraged. It can be hard to break the ice at first, but if you hang out in a particular ongoing thread, such as a show like "Beyond The Boundary" ( /forumtopic-820429/beyond-the-boundary-kyokai-no-kanata-anticipation-and-discussion), and contribute, you should make a few friends.

Always remember: you get what you give.

Cheers.

No, I don't think so. I believe that's a Moderator/Admin only skill. If you want one of your threads moved, you could always send a PM to a Mod and ask them to move it for you. You can find a list of the Mods/Admins here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/staff . Scroll down to Crunchyroll Moderators. They're all incredibly friendly and I'm sure they'd be willing to help you.

Cheers.

I know this is stupid, but I'm wondering, is anyone who's a tumblr user experiencing site problems? I can't access my dash. I can only go so far as the loading screen for my dashboard, then it's just an endless, loading, loop. If it does show up, it's a blank white style sheet and it's not how tumblr looks.

'Is it down right now' , and all related sites I could think of say it's UP, but it's not up for me. I saw that a couple people on yahoo answers were having the same problem. Is anyone on CR having problems?

Hmm...I just checked my three Tumblr accounts now (8:57 PM, December 9) and they were all working fine. No problems. Maybe you're Tumblr is on a different server than mine and your server is experiencing some problems. They do split up their site onto multiple content networks. How long have you been having problems logging in?

On your side, have you tried logging in with different web browsers, clearing browser cookies, cache, etc? In some of their Help docs, Tumblr recommends clearing cookies & caches once in a while if you're having log-in problems. If all of that is fine, then maybe waiting until tomorrow and trying again.

In English class, we had to create surveys for a project. My survey is about gun control/violence, so I hope anyone can help me out and fill it out.
