America is afraid of China. That is a fact. Why do you think they are broadcasting the chinese rise to power. And why do you think a lot of investors are going to China. They see there is a future.

America doesn't want to piss off china. They depend on it for goods. I think China is only second compared to Canada in import/export. I'm not too sure on that one.

I was joking on the north korea bit... internet sarcasim is hard to tell.

China's growth is almost unhealthy but i think it is slowing down. Either way. If China's military gets any stronger, America might even warn China because they don't want a potiental threat.

Actually China’s growth is not slowing. At least not in population and military. In 2000 they increased martial expenditures by just under 20%, and this year they increased it by 17% more.

Also, America doesn’t want to tick of Sweden either. Doesn’t mean we’re afraid of them. Of course we don’t want to fight China because it would hurt us, but we -would- win. America is stronger in economics, military (diffidently military! Nobody in the world spends as much money on military as we do. Which is interesting because we only spend about 4-5% of our GDP on the military, compared to…oh say Saudi Arabia’s 10%) and politics far mightier than China. We’re more stable, have more resources, and a mass of mighty allies. Australia seems to follow us blindly, and we have a love-hate relation with England. (Our citizens have a tendency to bash each other, but our governments work together pretty well. They’d work together even beet if we blew up the UN! :p)

We are not afraid of China. It’s a fact. Get yours straight. Mind you, we don’t want to fight them, but there is no doubt in our officials and government that we can take China. Simple because we’re stronger than them.

Rather people like it or not, and trust me they don’t, America -is- the strongest right now. How long that will last, mind you, I cannot say. Probably not too long though. Eventually somebody is bound to overcome us, but it’s going to be somebody who’s on our tail as it is.

What you must remember though is that America is a relatively young nation. Other nations have been using up their resources on mass scale for thousands of years. China, is a good example. Very old. America, on the other hand, is only a few hundred years old.

The problem is that we consume our resources faster than anyone else too. It’s like a long distance run. America is that guy you always see who breaks out into a mad dash, gets ahead of everyone, stays there for about half the race, and then falls behind and comes in like…fifth…unless, of course, he comes in dead last. :P

Ken: Shoot, I have a book and some papers but I'd have to find them in the clutter of my house. Here, try this website. I haven't searched through the whole thing-but it's New York Times so it should do.

Why? Just curious if I was blowing smoke?

never in history has there ever been 3 economic superpowers in East Asia. China, Japan and South Korea are going to be duking it out in the near future.

China's got a huge lead in manpower, land mass and resources though. >_>
