ok guys im sure most of us are in our sweet teen years, and for some to come, we'll soon find ourselves in a dilemma after e o level results are released: should i go poly or jc?

for now im currently doing a project on the general student's thinking: whether jc or poly is 'better'. i hope i can find out about everyone's opinions on this subject.

another question i want to ask is, why do some ppl who are eligible, some even single-digit pointers, choose to go jc?

PLEASE SHARE ALL YOUR HONEST ANSWERS AND OPINIONS HERE. THANKS (:

0.o , i just thought of this topic this morning .......

y do ppl choose jc ? mostly is becoz jc is 'easier' to get onto U as seen frm the % , 70~80% ..

y do some ppl opt for poly instead ? there are abt 30% who are eligible to go to JC but choose poly instead .. diiff ppl have diff view u know ...so dun ask me as i am not among the people ...

however , the reason i say JC is 'easier ' to go by the % doesnt really mean it applies to all jc , the top jc will take up ~100% so the .. ahem* u know what i mean .. other* jc range may not be 70~80 %, the % wiill be lower , u guyz got do math should able to count yrself

so , those who cannot go U (local/oversea) will have to go poly , waste 2 years<sad rite ?
thus for those who go directly to poly after O will be safer in the sense as they most probably will get a diploma rather than those who have to use their O cert

so my conclusion is L1R5 less than 10 preferably will go JC , unless u really like poly education then go ahead ,
11~15 , should consider going JC .... 16~20 pls think carefully especially those 20 pt as u have to work extra extra hard to compete with those much better than u ...

one quote for all > nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm so go any place u think is best for you , +dun be influnce by other ppl(yr parent or pals) as they do not really know what is the best for u

lol i oso was thinking why only 210 ppl get into Uni o_O personally i willl go poly, im sick of school U's >_> wore the same one from primary 1 til secondary 4! CAN YOU IMAGINE TEH HORROR!!!!!
xD

personally poly is safer for me and that... poly's diploma too gives you a high chance of going into uni's, you just gotta do better in ur projects and stuffs.
my sisters' boyfriend is a lecturer in uni and he also suggested poly before uni because when u enter poly den going into uni, you most likely choose the subject/course thats linked to what u took in poly, therefore you will have the fundamentals of it and its way easier to do well in uni then most others that goes from jc to uni =3
and doing well in uni, if you get top 5%, you can expect you pay to be alot higher then others working in the same position as you

for poly students to go uni is harder...ard top 10 % can make it only...
isent competition stronger in poly then jc to go uni? if poly can go uni so easily i bet a lot more ppl would want to go in...
poly is mainly for students who dont want to study like hell again and maybe want to go work directly after graduation. for jc it's the hard route but one can consider it a 'shortcut' to uni.

but seriously, if u can go into a top jc, why opt for poly instead? a lot of ppl are doing that. i just dont understand why.

Well....
Go to JC if you think that you are not sure about what to study... or you have bad fashion sense (you can't go wrong by wearing a school uniform). JC does provide you with more university options due to the variety of subjects you studied. However once you get in you must work all the way (Be prepared to work your hardest). The classroom setting and fixed timing may be a factor to consider. It doesn't matter what JC you do to, it matters that you get a university cert ultimately. GP also helps to broaden perspective and nuture critical thinking.... as well as help one being a well-informed individual (its necessary to know current affairs)

Poly has more free timing and freedom of clothing. The subject you study will help you in getting valuable work experience as there will be work attachments. Take note that poly requires submission of a lot of project work (JC only has 1). At the end, you will get a diploma which can enable you to work immediately(for some courses) and some courses will get you into 2nd yr of university.

Questions to consider:
1. Do you get <20pts
2. Do you know what you really want to do?
3. Do you hate fixed clothing/fixed timing?
4. Do you want to go to a university?
5. Are you a consistent person in academic terms?
6. Are you like hands-on or theory more?
7. Do you need to work early?
8. Can you afford a university degree after your poly/JC education?

Actually I am more pro-university... it doesn't matter where you go as you must like what you are doing.

Just make a choice and don't look back

This question of JC or poly is a good one. Anyway I was from JC and am currently studying in uni, so let me give you what I think. Choose JC or poly based on what u want to be in future.

If u r interested in being a doctor or lawyer, its better to go to JC.

For business/accountancy streams, I would say JC is better due to it being a 2 year system (after which uni(NUS/NTU/SMU) is 3 years or 4 years for honours) which means u will spend 5-6 years to study business and get a basic degree. However if u r a guy, add another 2 years for NS thus 7-9.
For poly people, 3 years business diploma and a harder chance to enter the 3 unis as mentioned but theres SIM or foreign uni. Factoring in the number of years 3+3 = 6 (basic degree) or 7 for honours. For guys going thru this route its 8-9 years.
So for JC u will be able to save 1 year.

For engineering stream, its better to go poly due to it being hands-on and if u remain on the same field u can start from year 2 of uni thus saving one year. This is for engineering fields such as mechanical, civil or electrical. For aerospace students wannabe, I would think JC is more appropriate as the number of vacancies for the previous batches are less than 100. Thus the no. of available seats to poly students will be little.

I went to JC because i have no idea wat course to take in poly...
Going to JC gives me 4 more years of life to find out wat i would want in life...

I see that they are lots of theories and stuffs abt going to poly and jc... but do all the students really think so much?
