Offcoarse it isn't. But personally, I think some anime is childish. Things they air on Jetix, such as Naruto, Shaman King and B-Daman. Jetix is for children from 4 to 14, so well, that says enough.

anime is for all sorts of people, but there are those who think escaping reality through envying a fantasy world is immature. well its not. its just a personal preference.
me, i just like to be fascinated by the stories that are told

I personally feel that pointing out something you felt is childish is even more ignorant & childish than that person...everyone is entitled to their own lives.

YES

I'm an anime addict (i've spent enough on anime and similar japanese pop culture stuff to buy a car - around $4000+ on DVDs alone) and yes, being an anime addict is childish.

Now that doesn't mean enjoying anime is childish. I think people of all ages can (and do) enjoy something like Miyazaki. But when you're an obsessive fan of anime (and this includes me), then yes, you are acting immature. Watching shows on cartoon network, maybe picking up a series or two you like on DVD, following a video games series - that's all perfectly understandable.

If you were mature, you would be doing something more constructive and socially acceptable with your time than watching huge volumes of anime like spending time with your family, furthering your career or education, or bettering youself or loved ones in a variety of ways. Sure you can have hobbies and enjoy a variety of frivolous entertainment, but in the end these things are a very minor part of your life.

However, grown men (such as myself) and women sit down and watch and endless stream of cartoons involving big robots, ninjas, high school romances or magical girls. Then we buy toys, soundtracks, comic books, and gods only know what else. Then we post on internet forums filled with 14 year old kids claiming that anime is super serious entertainment for adults. Then we dress up as cartoon characters and go to conventions. It's really hard to argue that we're acting mature at this point.

Pretty much my logic is if you're obsessed with anime as a teenager, then you're just acting perfectly normal for your age. If you keep on watching anime obsessively too far after that... then you're acting immature. And I include myself in that category.

It's an overindulgence in escapism, thats all there is to it. But personally, I don't care much for society, conventional recreation or popular culture in general, so I say fuck it all to hell and I'll just do what I enjoy.

euughh ;_; i hate it when people think anime is childish!! it is soo not childish and imature , its a hobby!! .. its just like reading, playing sports, drawing or whatever .. anime is AWESOME ! .. my parents also think anime is for little kids they actually get pretty worried when I stay on the computer watching anime all day and like laughing all by myself on the computer watching lovely complex hahahaha xD

hahah! laughing by yourself is always something your parents would be wondering about. happens to me and my brother all the time. sometimes when either my bro or i is using the comp and watching anime and randomly laughing my parents would be asking whom ever is not in the computer "what the heck is happening to you brother/sister?" and then followed by the "you shouldn't watch to much cartoons"

like seriously? geesh. it gets annoying sometimes. but then again, my parents thought "hey, at least the kids dont do drugs and stay out so late" - hehehe. i guess they eventually got tired of commenting about us watching anime. hehee

besides, it's not like i'm failing school or anything. that's also one of my best arguments. lol.

first of all, i dont skip school just to watch anime (then, that is just too much)
2nd i get good grades
3rd i dont do drugs/dont drink/dont smoke
4th i dont ask my parents for money to buy anime related stuff (ok maybe money for my first manga collection, but still! hehehehe) lol

my point is... ANIME IS NOT CHILDISH!!!

Only if you make it childish and immature. If you become addicted and it's the only thing you do. Then it might be. As long as you don't become manic about it. Otherwise, it's fine.

Liking anime or even cartoons, for that matter, is nothing to be ashamed of. It's nothing childish.

The "addiction" is another story. I'm not saying that being addicted to anime is childish, but it's certainly something that you have to consider. You're 17, so I'm assuming you'll be entering college soon, and you'll soon realize that you'll need to prioritize studies, or even your future (i.e. job, occupation, etc.) above your "addiction" for anime.

I agree with Edsamac, but most importantly I hope you realize the diffrence between what is reality and what isn't. It's okay to watch anime and enjoy it, but since your about the age to go to college, you might want to prioritize your studdies, job, friends, family and then anime. However, watching anime all day or watching it but not doing anything else isn't the best use of time.

College isn't as easy as movies, teachers and other people think it is, you really do have to study, put all your effort in your homework and focus on what is important in your life. Because once your out of high school, no one is going to set anything for you, its all up to you. Anime was made for entertainment and enjoyment and as long as you do your other responsibilities, your not immature/chidlish.

Just please always remember, anime is was made for fun, not to be someone's reality.

I'm sure your parents have their own hobbies too, so maybe you can compare them? Sometimes I think watching a particular anime helps me learn more about how to live my life better. It may sound a little weird but sometimes I think the people in animes are better at heart then real life people. They help me understand how to make better friends and most of all have fun. Continues anime-watching! I support you
