I've sat and driven in my brother's 02 wrx with a remap ecu, straight pipe, and a sti turbo in it (and a bunch of other stuff)... i was shocked... the acceleration slapped me silly.... though the turbo lag in the beginning really makes you wait.
I've also sat in a supercharged gen 1 mr2, and the build up of acceleration was incredible.... there was no end in the power delivery until redline...

I dunno.... even though the power output was so different.... I was really impressed by the superchargers simplicity, reliability, and power band. The turbo was fantastic in terms of shear mayhem when the power kicks in..

Personally it depends on driving styles.... i think, my driving style is more in line with the supercharger, rather than the turbo.... The lag just pisses me off sometimes...but im sure with the right (a lot of) tunning-- it would be almost obsolete. Despite being less powerful, the constant unwaivering rush of momentum provided by the supercharger stuck in my mind way more than turbos...

That is saying a lot, because i didnt even drive that mr2; i was just a passenger.

turbo lag can be minimized with a turbo thats mapped for your car as well as supporting mods. the bigger the turbo the more lag but more power. (thats why drag cars that run huge turbo's run nitrous to help spool them up).

thanks for the little info...

My friends and i used to really like BOV's, but logically speaking, after a while of hearing that hissing sound every time you shift gear, i'm really sure i'd get sick of it.

I like both turbo and super cuz they have their own pros and cons. Personally, i'll pick the supercharger.

First, i don't want to high rev or redline my engine and risk it blowing up just to get that turbo boost. and second, i don't want to deal with turbo lag.

Although supercharger isn't as strong, it produces a more consistent power boost which is what i believe is more important.

dont really like superchargers. i had a supercharger but it weighted the car down, the only plus part was that the engine responded like a n/a but u had to watch the temp. i really like the turbos because they are really cheap easy to install and light weight but produce on hell of a punch. i try to get the overall response and balance out of a car...not the maximum hp or torq that other retards go after.

Turbo lag? That is totally over rated. You know all vtec systems doesnt kick in until 5k+ right? and all the honda boys think its the shit. Turbos spool way faster than that and give you way more power than any vtec system can give. And im talking about full power at 2000-2500rpm. Wow!!..Thats crazy lag... even though you are probably crusing at 2500rpm already...

Yeah nothing beats a well tuned engine. So i agree completely. but if i had to use one or the other it would depend on wht the engine was. 4's and 6's i would go turbo, but 8's i would more then likely go super, 10's not sure dont really care, and if you need either for a 12 your engine just plain sucks.

Feck VTEC, I'm all about the LS non-VTEC and VTEC killers. I wish they made non-VTEC B-series head with 16 valves.

Newer K-series i-VTEC kicks at 4200.

like said before, it all depends on what you want it for.

not all vtec motors are like that. There also isnt one set vtec either. There are some that engage at 2400rpm all the way to redline STOCK. D17a2 and K20a3 are 2 examples of that.

im not trying to start a flame war or anything but its pretty amazing how they work. take the s2000 for example. 120-140whp below the vtec engagement point at 5800rpm. at 6k where it peaks, you get about 190-200whp depending on if you have a f20c or f22c.

IMO id want to get the best of both worlds, vtec AND boost. oh wait...

Well the old systems did. The newer valve timing systems are crazy now and days tho. The new Mivec systems are fully independent (both intake and exhaust) and are implemented full time depending upon engine load. It uses oil pressure in the cam gears to retard or advance each side separately.
