this thread is made so that the other members know the reason behind an individual being a loner.. being a loner doesn't mean that you don't speak to others. peace out man

There's a difference between being a loner and being a xenophobe. Plus, the Internet is a completely different setting from an real-life social event. Anonymity allows people on the Internet to be more bold than you'd think them to be in person.

a xenophope is one who fears things that are foreign. Things that they are unaccutomed to. A loner is one who chooses to be alone. One fears and the other chooses- there is a difference but i dont see how it applies.

I do agree however that the internet is a different even than a real life scocial event. But again, a loner chooses tto be alone so speaking on here would contradict being a loner. Your not technically alone, you are talking to people. A xenophobe wouldnt even attempt to post.

not trying to begin a flame war so i'll end my words there. Thank you for your reply.

At my school, status is very "important"
I have had quite a lot of friends just ditch their current friends to join the popular group/jocks when an opportunity comes by....

I myself don't care about my status so I just ditched my status-hungry friends and made friends in a small little group of friends. I also prefer a small group of friends rather than a large group since the smaller group tend to be much nicer and listen more.

Because like it or not, in the real world you still need to have social networks in order to reach your dreams, co-operate to build your career, earn money, to survive & to etc.

Social networks are not required for survival. Having a job almost always places you in situations where you must interact with others, but this isn't really a "social network" if one only engages in it for the purposes of work. Furthermore, while building one's career and "reaching one's dreams" may often require that sort of network, some people may set their sights low and avoid it altogether. If you want to be a famous scientist, expect to form relationships; if you want to proofread documents for a company, don't expect anything but documents to proofread.

Well my grandparents doesn't have jobs & they live near the urban area of some jungle village.
When I use the word "social networks" it means generally connection & knowledge of others.
Since they are old and are more comfortable living there thn in fast paced city here, thus most time they actually require the assistance of "errand boys/girls" to help them do groceries and also good connection of the local butcher/market ppl. as they sometimes help drop the products at their front door.
Besides that if it weren't for other neigbhbourhood elders that always go exercise tai chi & etc at the mountain they would hv. bcm senile just sitting at home. They taught them how to use local medicine & how to heal themselves.

I once moved into another isolate town far away from my city. I started relationship with the most unlikely people.
A middle age Siamese fruit & dessert seller. - she only knows Siamese & a bit of Chinese. She supplies fresh fruits for me. The first time I met her, I was "hunting for real food" there were no stores, nobody much around except a fun fair park for kids which is kinda scary coz. it looks so depleted & not many ppl were there. Like some horror movie kind. Anyway the lady only sold fruits, I wanted somethg wth rice/meat anythg even bread as real meal. She tried to help me out. With tht. it started a funny awkard duck & chicken kind of conversation each trying to understand each language. Most time we use sign language.

So if u say social networks ain't required for survival. Thn how do you get your daily supply of food?
By others, even if you don't speak much but u keep in touch thru a connection relationship. Even the pizza delivery guy's no. is one type.

Ever seen the movie Cast Away by Tom Hanks?
Without ppl. for long term, it will develop mental illness.
In Japan, the social phenomena like Hikikomori or Honne and Tatemae have increase tremendously.
And I'm not proud to say, but I was one of them for 1yr+ & before that I shut off everyone. It took great self enlightment & courage to discover the meaning of life & own purpose in this world.

i remember back then. i was alone during elementary school. i hardly made friends cause they usually leave me or backstab me. i remember hearing them talk about me behind me back.. thinking that i cant hear them. i started to make some friends around the 8th grade but a few years after that i was just pushed aside. during my junior year was the time when i was emoish and wanted help. i dont think it help though. but during that year i met my best friend and the love of my life.
those were the days.
i just wish i met him earlier

Being a loner is cool! If uve ever wanted to be different and Unique, u dont get any more different than being a Loner. The best part of being a loner is, when u decide NOT to be a loner. This might not make sense, but with that much time by urself, uve probably figured some stuff about the world more so than other people. THAT is priceless.

Very very true. They might take years to figure out the same thing and by the time they understand it, we'd go "Uhh I knew that a long time ago.", which is like a verbal slap in the face.

hmm.... i guess it would be nice if you were a loner seeing as there wont be anyone who'd get in your way if you were doing something. but the only problem with being a loner is that if people notice youre a loner? it wouldn't be much fun to be nigelated if people tease you about your quiet life....
