Acceptable? Of course. I met my current girlfriend online and she lives a mile away from me now. We were over 200 miles apart and couldn't meet for 2.5 years, but it worked out nevertheless.

And for those of you who think it's about not having social skills (sometimes this is the case, but so what? How is this grounds for judgment? Why is this form of living not just as good as yours?), let it be known that it is not always about what has to be done for a relationship. Sometimes it just... happens.

not acceptable for young teeny-boppers and young adults maybe for 40+ pple who are lonely and learning to socialize again with the opposite sex. ever heard of rape and exploitation ....seriously, it's so fake...online relationship...like, come on pple....totally creepy...yuck!! got the goosebumps!!! that's scary!!!

a coworker's niece (14, a church girl, honor-roll student) met a guy who pretended to be 16 but was really 30 on online. they talked online for a year, and one day decided to meet. he picked her up after school and took her to his place. he raped her and dropped her off at school the next day. she told the police and now he's in jail waiting trial...true story... check: star tribune minneapolis minnesota newspaper!!!.... another scenerio, friend's ex-boyfriend(after friend broke up with him), the ex-boyfriend moved in with someone after cheating on my friend with an online person for 3 months, the person turned out to be a big, ugly, fat person. to bad for him cause he signed a year lease..hahah....we found out he left asap, was sued by the ugly person and had to pay $10,000 in breaking the lease contract....so, don't let it be you.....

Your horror stories are the exceptions to the rule, and I would argue that stupidity - not the online relationship itself - was the problem in both cases. It is possible to be careful and to have a successful online relationship. I did it.

Who the hell are you! Your usually mean when new threads appear

lol view he's profile, to know who he is thats the first step u can do

... No duhh.

sorry to interrupt you guys... but uhhh, i'm hoping that we don't get carried away... why don't we focus on the topic.. i just wanna hear what you guys think??? hehe

Okay I think those people have absolutely no real life social skills at all that they have to go on line to find a relationship.

makes no sense whatsoever... just because people are social online doesn't mean they aren't when offline. just look at yourself bro, why don't YOU go out once in a while (not sure what the word is but, you show off the buddy requests you've received in your profile). you might make a comeback of "why don't you go out" and the reason for that is because im grounded because i haven't studied enough for my SAT's which are tomorrow

no! u might not know the "real" person that u're dating! and even if u did meet each other in real life, he might be an @$$ and he'll start to verbal and physical abusing you [know this from friends and their friends] I'm not sayin that chattin ppl online are bad but u have to be careful about who you're talkin to. don't really believe these kind of methods of finding your 'special one'. If u want to online date, go ahead, it's your decision.

Its quite possible but I dont think its right cause in real life you gotta have the courage to ask them to go out but if you just online you dont have to face them and stuff just ask them without a care....
