I still think, questioning things is not a bad thing if you know how to do it.

I don’t think she meant to say “don’t ask questions,” but rather “When you ask scientific questions, use science, when you ask mathematical questions, find the answer with math, and when you ask religious questions rely on the information given by the respective religion.”

Relying on religious information does not rule out using other methods, but anyways this is too offtopic.

No more introductions? :(

I'm Leah & I'm Catholic.

I've been sitting here for a good five minutes, feeling as though I should write more (especially considering all the other introductions). Sorry.

Hi I'm Kellee...

I was raised Jewish-ish but I'm agnostic now. My family celebrates all Jewish holidays, Christmas... they make eggs on Easter, etc. I'm really bad about talking about religion because I'm not a religious person, but I hope to learn lots here! I'm going to invite my mom to this group! Last time I checked, she was Wiccan.

hello I'm Meredith and I'm a Presbyterian, well actually I'm struggling with my faith at the moment. There are days when I'm fine and I do believe and doubting days. I'm not a fairweather christian. Those days aren't affected by how good or bad they were. Mostly my mood. I've had an interesting look at Catholocism (yes I'm aware that isn't spelled right) due to the fact I'm a protestant attending a catholic school. A lot of people ask me why I'm there because I'm not catholic and never seem to understand that I'm there for an education. (because where I live, the public schools suck)

I had one really interesting classroom experience in which I was learning about the Protestant Reformation from a catholic convert, from the Presbyterian church, in a catholic school. Well a lot of my opinions conflict with those from Rome (birth control, women in the clergy, homosexuals etc..) so there have been sometimes where I've really had to keep my mouth shut. (though after the abistinence education course I said all my feelings on the anonymous survey)

I also think I should state my parents backround with the catholic church so my influences and views can be better understood. My mom was born and raised a catholic. She went to med-school and became a doctor. When she wanted to marry my dad the priest refused for several reasons. First off she wasn't marrying a catholic and didn't promise that any children she had would be raised catholic, second of all her medical backround showed on her views on abortion and birth control, lastly the priest said "the problem with you is that you're too educated." He also said she was a danger to the church. Luckily a different priest was able to marry them. Now I understand that this was at a bad time in the catholic church's history. There was a lot of ideological turmoil. I do respect Catholics and their beliefs (my moms parents are catholic and were very happy to learn about my schooling) however, I disagree with much of the doctrine and have critical views.

As for the Presbyterian church, I dislike some of it's positions but many of those are up for debate just like the debate of women in the clergy was around 50 years ago (during that time the church split. Presbyterian USA, my church, ordains women. Presbyterian Church of America does not)

Hello, I am Amelia. I am a Christian who do not belong to the denominational church. Not a Protestant, not an Anglican, not a Mormon, not a Jehovah witness, not a Catholic, but just a Christian.

I am 20, going on 21.

My story is a long one, and I have gone down a real hard road of spirituality to become who I am now.

Regardless, the one pride that I took to myself in my life till this day, was the moment when I chose to be a Christian. Now that when I come to think about it, despite of all the many trials and tribulations I had to go through, life has been beautiful ever since and that is, because I found a place where I truly belong to.

Hello, I am a 31 year old Sumerian Reconstructionist. Since this isn't a largely pagan group, I should explain what that is.

Reconstructionists (pagan Recons, not Jewish ones) are people who believe that the old beliefs are still valid. Hellenic Recons worship the Greek gods, Kemetic Recons worship the Egyptian gods, Asatru worship the Norse Gods, Aztec Recons worship the Aztec gods, etc. I and other Sumerians like me worship the Sumerian gods.

We do not behave like it is still five thousand years ago. We reconstruct the beliefs of the ancient people, but do it in a modern context. The Sumerians adored civilization, our gods stress civilization and organization. It would be rather silly to discard advancements that have been made since the fall of Sumer.

As you might imagine, we do a lot of research into history and archeology. You can't just take one single text in a vacuum to reconstruct a religion. You need to understand it and how it related to its neighbors.

So who were the Sumerians? Developing just before Egypt, they were the first civilization. You know in the bible when it talks about Abraham coming from "Ur of the Chaldees"? that section was obviously written when Chaldea was around, but it was a Sumerian city when Abraham left it. Sumerian religion resembles the pre Levitical beliefs of the early Jews. Even some of the myths are similar.
