Ididn't really like it, and not because of lack of relation to the games. I just though it was a little too weird, and a little too poorly explained. Of course I still own it on DVD.

It's not that I didn't like it, it was a fairly decent sci-fi flick (and arguably a prequal to FF7 if I remember correctly), it's that I felt lied to about it. If they wanted to do something other than FF, fine, but don't bill it as FF. I'd have gone to see it anways with completely different expectations. But being that they called it FF, call me crazy, I expected FF. Promised, but not delivered.

Exactly! I felt like they just used the FF name to get more people to see it, and in the end it bit them in the ass.

o.O So...a lot of you just didn't like it...because they called it Final Fantasy? That seems rather childish...I mean I can understand if you were disappointed that it wasn't Final Fantasy, but give this movie some credit. It's not that bad. Like azrael said, it's a decent movie.

I didn't like Advent Children that much. I mean...I did. =D I liked it best when they all shut their mouths and fought. The plot...ehhh it wasn't BAD. Would've been good but it felt rushed, very rushed (I was disappointed too, I'd heard great things about FFVII and this did not meet expectations). I just don't think it should be put on such a high pedastle, it's far from the best movie. So it's not fair to say the plot sucked for Spirits Within. My opinion I think their pretty on par with eachother.

Advent Children blew Spirits Within out of the water. The story was every bit as good SW, especially since it expanded on the already epic FF7 storyline. The fight scene coreography was amazing. Character design and production quality where all top notch. And guess what - a final fantasy movie that had magic, summons, swords - promised and delivered. I didn't think the movie was rushed, it felt well paced to me. Plenty of action as well as dialogue. I still almost cry every time Aeris is on the screen

I can only hope they do something this cool for 6... but yeah its a long shot.

I personally loved FF: Spirits Within...and I HATE it when people say that they did not like the movie because it was FF and not actually FF....

It had a FF type storyline, if you notice there is standard FF things mentioned (like Cid and chocobos) and it was a wonderful storyline in general. The CG was fantastic, and I am still sad that it did not do better.

I really enjoyed the story of Spirits Within. It just didn't really belong in the Final Fantasy category. I swear it would have done better in the box office if it was just called Spirits Within. Also it was mainly a Hollywood film, meaning for America. I say this because the animation and voice over lip-synch matches.

There is a logical reason for the name "Final," but I'll not deprive you of the 3 minutes of work it would take to find out that reason.

reason why final fantasy called final fantasy taken from my good friend wiki.

By 1987, declining interest in the FDS had placed Square on the verge of bankruptcy. At approximately the same time, Square designer Hironobu Sakaguchi began work on an ambitious new fantasy role playing game for the cartridge-based Famicom, inspired in part by Enix's popular Dragon Quest (known to some in the United States as Dragon Warrior). Sakaguchi had plans to retire after the completion of the project so he named it Final Fantasy because it was his final game, although it was also going to be Square's final game. It's commonly believed that the game was named Final Fantasy because of Square and not Sakaguchi, although Sakaguchi himself has confirmed it was named because of his plans for retirement. Either way, Final Fantasy turned out to be far from Square's or Sakaguchi's last game. Final Fantasy reversed Square's lagging fortunes, and became their flagship franchise.
