Heavenly Father knew there was no place on Earth where the plates would be safe, so He has them.

Yes, we still believe in the original Bible. I quoted you the 8th Article of Faith, but the 9th goes with it:

"We believe all that God had revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important truths pertaining to the Kingdom of Heaven"

KrnsoldierofGod,

Their religion is a sect of Christianity. They do not support polygamy. The groups of the LDS that do that are splinter groups and not at all orthodox to the church. In other-words, they’ve no more to do with Kim than they do with me or you or anyone else. Their churches aren’t affiliated or related, they’re actually considered to hold heretical beliefs.

As far as the golden plates go, I read that they were melted. Whatever the case, there are countless biblical relics that have been lost throughout history. Just because we can’t find them doesn’t mean they never existed. There are countless historical relics that we know existed but can’t find anymore. The world is a big place and a lot of things can happen over the time of twenty years, much less a century.

The Church of the Later Day Saints was never disproved, nor will it be. It’s a physical impossibility. The best we can do in this area is prove something to be likely, or unlikely. At this point we’ve done neither.

Mormons do believe that the bible was corrupted, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they believe that it’s useless. It’s possible to believe something isn’t perfect without treating it like trash. Let’s say I preached a message to you that God loves everyone, so everyone is saved regardless of what they do/believe/ext. You probably wouldn’t believe my entire message, it’d be flawed, but you’d almost certainly accept that God loves everyone.

So you see, you can believe that what I say is interesting and can help somebody move along spiritually without necessarily agreeing with everything I believe/state.

do you belive that ALL of the original Bible is ok?

8th article of faith: We believe the bible to be the word of God, so far as it is translated correctly...

We use the KJV. We also understand that man is fallable, and can make errors. Some of those errors show up in the bible. Unless a man has a gift from God to translate (being a Seer) then he is relying on his own wisdom. God is the one who knows exactly what He wants said in His word, and all translating should be done through Him. Unfortunately, when the Bible was originally translated from greek and hebrew, it wasn't done at God's behest, but at man's desire for understanding. As a result, errors creep in...it is unavoidable.

After Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, he was required, by God, to go through the entire bible and make small corrections in the original translations. We call these "Joseph Smith Translations". They are included as footnotes and appendicies in our publications. Sometimes the are very small changes, and sometimes they are quite a bit bigger, but they are not added directly into the bible.

So...no. We don't believe ALL of the original Bible is "ok"...We use the original bible, and when errors crop up, we follow the JST. We do not use "modern" translations of the Bible, either...the ones that take out the "thees" and "thous" and change it so it's easier to read. For all the world's translations, the KJV is the most accurate, and even changing from "Faith, Hope and Charity" to "Faith, Hope and Love", changes the meaning, ever so slightly.

Now, krn, why do I feel like I'm being set up?

Have you read the descript of the group recently? Don't go around trying to convert somebody.

Seraph took the words out of my mouth. If you want to discuss religion in this fashion, I am going to redirect you to the communication thread (if there isn't one now, there will be in about 2 minutes).

This group as a whole is for education on world religion, not a place for conversion or bible bashing.

^Doesn’t matter. I’m not concerned about her salvation or anything-I have faith enough in that-you’re just being disrespectful, and this thread wasn’t constructed for that purpose. Actually, I wouldn’t tolerate it anywhere. People should just be happy that Kim’s a lot more understanding than I am and will at least allow it in a communications thread. She’s the boss, so whatever she’ll allow is fine by me, but now that she’s expressed her own distaste for this conversation I highly suggest you alter your behavior appropriately.
