SIGH!!!!!! They're one of the strangest, most genius bands I've ever heard. Even if you don't like metal music, you should still check it out, because I 100% guarantee you have never heard music like this.

The Pillows are also a fantastic alternative rock group from Japan, but I'm sure everyone on this forum already knows about them because of the FLCL soundtrack. Still, one can't mention favorite Japanese bands without mentioning The Pillows.

Yoko Kanno / Seatbelts is / are also responsible for some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. I know this word gets thrown around like a hot potato these days, but Yoko Kanno is, & I mean this with every ounce of sincerity & conviction in my body, an infallible genius. Her competence & control over nearly every genre of music under the sun is unprecedented. Not only are her musical abilities near prodigious, but her compositional expertise is almost unmatched in this current musical climate. She can conjure an emotional overload with her music & choice of vocalists who sing mostly in a language she herself created (though in the song in the link the lyrics are in Icelandic; anyone familiar with the anime it's from will of course know why *wink*). It's quite a feat to move someone to tears listening to music one has no idea whatsoever the "lyrics" are, even if knowing the "lyrics" themselves are completely arbitrary & quite literally gibberish. If one can tell, I could talk about Yoko Kanno forever if that would mean even one single person checked out her music because of it. Though in reality, me going on this long will most likely turn someone off from checking her out, so I'll just shut my stupid, gigantic in terms of verbose but tiny in substance mouth. Please, just listen to her.

JagaJazzin, I completely agree with you on The Pillows and Yoko Kanno (who is simply amazing). I took a listen to the Sigh track, and found the music really interesting, but didn't like the vocals. I've never cared for that vocal style, whenever I've heard it, so that's no surprise.

Lately, I've been on a bit of a Hello Sleepwalkers kick. They are probably best known for the song in the OV of Noragami, but all their work is good. This one's been stuck in my head lately: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZAN-AgXPbA

Coldrain, hands down! First heard of them when they opened up for BFMV back in about 2013 or 2014, and have never looked back since. So heavy and unique, and a lot more interesting and powerful to listen to (in my opinion) than most American metal these days.

Boys and Men because Yutaka Kobayashi is adorable and his voice is gold! The only problem is, I am having trouble trying to find their music to purchase and videos are hard to watch because they aren't allowed in the US. However, I've found UVERworld thanks to Gintama's live action movie ("Decided"). I also found Yui and Haruna Luna, who I also like. I'd love to find similar sounding artists. I like the sound of J-Pop and am curious about rock music as well.

TsukiPro - all the units but especially Growth and SolidS.

Really, any of the music composed by John/ Akira Takizawa.

Alive playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyPfi0RjrRhnsFmiL2r4MiL_Wg1eNajqL

They also have an anime that's on Crunchyroll, so look that up, too.

Really like Altima too. Haven't listened to too much J-Music other than bands I've been introduced through anime tbh.
