Well it depends...

Do you believe people can change for the worse? Most people would say yes to that.
If that was true, however, it would also mean people can change for the better since its just a difference in direction of change.

I seriously don't understand what on Earth you are talking about, are you like drunk or something?

I just said that if society believes that people can change that easily, then we wouldn't have such idioms anymore. And I get gibberish back. Nice.

if you can believe that someone changes for the worse,
why cant you believe that someone can change for the better?
is it that difficult?
as long as one has the heart to do something, nothing is impossible.

yes, I am hardheaded and very immune to change because I can't and will never be able to understand gibberish.

edit: 'Hardheaded' is a phrase used to describe someone who can't change easily. You said it yourself (:

in society, there are pple who change and pple who are resistant to changes.
wells, the changes here we mean.. are character wise..
not lifestyle/ beliefs wise. yupps.
so, hardheaded here.. doesnt really fit in.

Actually, I agree with you that ysabellat is barely understandable but then I think his point was just that he believed that people can change. I mean he's just been generally supportive of that.

And while we're at that, I have an idiom myself. "The only constant is change".

I mean, people change all the time. A person at 6 and a person at 16 are very different, for example. It just depends on what you define as "good" that a person might be able to change for the better.

Yup, he seems supportive of how people can change but agrees with what those idioms said.

people can change, but that depends on how much they want to change and for how long they want to be the "new them"...

Of course people can change, but (and this will sound corny) I think it depends on how in touch with themselves they really are. Or how selfless they can be, and many other personality traits. Honestly, I don't think today's society (or at least for people around my age) really encourages things such as self-reflection and other "changing" things, whatever you can call them.

Going from my 17 years of experience in life, I think it is wise not to trust that someone can "change", at least in today's world, in a kinda Western society anyway (what I'm used to). However, putting your faith in someone (after some thought) is indeed quite a brave thing to do, though there's not much else worse than being disappointed by a "good friend".
To be pro-active and go right ahead to "change" someone is, I don't think, ever the best way to go. Maybe some hardcore shouting at them till it gets through to them (never tried), or subtle-ly induce some kind of self-reflect reaction would work a bit, but then it's up to them.

...Which is why I think absolute trust is one of the most precious thing to have in a relationship. (more corniness)
