Kwon Sang-woo and Song Seung-heon, friends in their film, but competitors in their dramas (2008/02/21)

kwon Sang-woo and Song Seung-heon's upcomig film "Destiny" evoked such huge sensation when these two stars were to appear as the best friends in the film. However, outside their film screen, the two stars met once again as competitors in the TV dramas.

The "Destiny" is going to be released on 20th March and the two stars are expected to comeback to TV drama about the same time. The female viewers are already fluttered to see the return of the two hottest stars in Korea.

kwon Sang-woo have finished KBS 2TV "Bad Love" and had verbal agreement to appear in SBS's special production, "Dae Mool". "Dae Mool" is based on the original Manhwa by Park In-kwon and is a story of a woman called Seo Hye-lim, who dreams to be the first female president of Korea. And kwon Sang-woo will be acting a lady-killer, Ha Ryoo.

"Dae Mool" is expected to be on early May as a follow up of SBS new Wed-Thu drama, "On Air" which starts on upcoming 27th. Besides kwon Sang-woo, other top stars are on the casting lists.

Recently, Song Seung-heon signed a contract to appear in MBC's special production "The East of the Eden" (Written by Na Yeon-sook, directed by Kim Jin-man), confirming his comeback to TV dramas in 5 years time after the end of KBS 2TV drama, "Summer Scent" in 2003. "The East of the Eden" is going to be as big as the "Dae Mool" with its high production cost of 25 billion-won. "The East of the Eden" is a revengeful story of two men who were born at the same time in a same hospital and Song Seung-heon is going to act one of the two, Lee Dong-chul.

There's high chance that the "The East of Eden" is going to be on-air after "Yi San", which is currently on debate over whether to extend the plot. Thus depend on how many extra episodes the producers of "Yi San" are prepared to produce; "The East of Eden" will be broadcasted either on May or June, unable to avoid the competition with "Dae Mool". Already many TV viewers are excited over how the two top stars who were friends in the film, will compete in the TV screen.

I don´t think that for that drama competition they become in enemies... Both are really good friends and if they´re profesionals that situation doesn´t matter.
The problem will have their fans that wouldn´t know what drama watch or maybe see them at the same time!!!!

So today was the premiere. I have some fresh news from Han Cinema:

-Song Seung-heon, a long-time friend of kwon Sang-woo, said, "I exercised a lot because I'm acting with kwon Sang-woo, who has Korea's best body. But he comes to the gym one hour later than I do and leaves 30 minutes earlier, and I wonder what he eats to still maintain such a nice body".
-Fans gathered at the premiere of Song Seung-heon and kwon Sang-woo's new movie, "Fate", something that has never been seen at premieres.
The premiere took place at 4 PM on the 17th, and there were signs to congratulate Song Seung-heon for the release of his first movie after army service. There were also about 70 fans.
Song Seung-heon's fan club congratulated his comeback with placards that read "Seung-heon, we love your passion. Be successful".
kwon Sang-woo's fans also encouraged him with words such as "kwon Sang-woo is the best" and "kwon Sang-woo "Fate" Success".
Japanese fans were also there. Older-aged women fans also stood on one side, wondering if they could see Song Seung-heon and kwon Sang-woo.
Bodyguards also re-checked the premiere entrance tickets of the people.

You can check Fate's review:

If you don't want to read it coz it's too long, and you're lazy I'll quote one, the most important line - Song and Kwon do prove they can do more than just smile and cause ladies to swoon.

A Whole New 'Fate' for Song Seung-heon (2008/03/24)

Song Seung-heon used to play sweet, gentle parts, mainly in sad melodramas that squeezed copious tears from his women fans. But in his first work after being discharged from the military, Song is reborn as an explosive, wild and tough guy. He stars in the gangster movie "Fate" with kwon Sang-woo and Ji Seong. The movie was sold to Japan for US$2 million last year, even before production had been completed. And more than 30 percent of tickets for the movie are booked even before its release, such is the curiosity about the film.

Song plays Woomin, a gangster who enjoys the trust of his boss and colleagues. "I thought hard about my first work after the discharge. I chose 'Destiny' in the end because I wanted to change my gentle image. My family and friends were against my decision, but I wanted a completely new, wild and masculine image, because I'm returning after a long break. So while I was thinking about my new image, I read the 'Destiny' screenplay and heard that director Kim Hae-gon would make the movie".

"Woomin is rough and tough. But he is human. I liked his character and sentiments and decided to play the part. I hope people will say, 'Song Seung-heon is not what he used be. He is a real wild, tough guy'."

The most difficult thing was repressing his emotions while playing Woomin, Song says. "At first, I thought I understood Woomin best and had some different views from the director. But later I came to understand why he asked me to restrain my emotions". He added, "I watched the completed movie for the first time today. I am satisfied".
