Chapter 1:
Three guys push a girl against the wall. She had just shown up for school when these kids came up and started to push and shove her. One of the kids grabbed her face, “Come on, why don't we go have some fun. I can teach you a couple things.” His lips turned up into a evil smirk. “Well, how about it?” He asked. The girl tried to turn her face away but the kids grip was to hard. The girl whimpered when she realized that she was stuck. One of the other kids came up beside her, “That's a nice uniform you go there.” He had the same evil smirk as his friend. All three kids laughed when the girl tried to get free again. “Hey, leave her alone.” They heard someone say.
When they turned around they saw this guy, who clearly didn't go to school, standing behind them. “What do you think you're doing here? You can't be on campus, go away.” The kid holding the girls face said. The guy standing in front of them didn't look fazed by any of it. “Hiei? Is that you?” The girl asked trying to see Hiei. Hiei stepped forward and the girl could see him. She smiled when she saw him and tired again to get away from the guys. Again she could not get away. This enraged Hiei and he attacked the kids.
When the last kid went down the girl rushed into his arms, “Thank you so much for saving me.” By now they were surrounded by students. Hiei folded his arms around her, “It's alright Sunny, you're safe now. Now, come on, you have class.” He said and helped her brush off her uniform. The whole time the students just watched in silence, wondering who Hiei was.
The bell rang and some of the student hurried inside to their classes while others stayed to watch. “Do you want me to walk you to class?” Hiei asked picking up Sunny's school bag. Keeping her eyes on Hiei, she nodded, “Please.” Without looking at any of the other students Hiei led Sunny to her class. They walked into her class and the teacher stopped his lecture. “Miss Sunstone why are you late and who is that?” The teacher asked clearly not happy that his class was interrupted. Bowing slightly she replied, “I'm sorry sensei but I have a bit of trouble this morning. This here is my friend Hiei, he saved me.”
All the students in the class were staring at her. Sunny never talked in class though she was very intelligent. Some of the kids even in the class teased her because she never said a word about it. “Wow, she can actually talk.” One student said and all the others laughed. Sunny looked down in embarrassment. The teacher was getting madder and madder because he couldn't continue his lecture. “Miss Sunstone have your friend leave now so these kids will shut up. This class is not over yet.” He said loudly.
Hiei took a step forward, “Do you mind if I sit in the back of your class. I would like to keep an eye on Sunny.” Sunny blushed and looked away from everyone. The teacher gave Hiei the okay as long as he stayed quiet and didn't disturb the class. Sunny went and sat down and the teacher started his class again, all the while, Hiei stayed and watched her.
“Hey Sunny, is that your boyfriend?” One of her classmates asked. Like she always did she just kept listening to her teacher. A few students would look back at Hiei every couple minutes and every time Hiei glared at them.
Lunch came around and Sunny's friends Kai and Kuriei came to sit with her. “Hey Hiei... wait what are you doing here?” Kai asked looking between him and Sunny. Hiei grunted and turned his head away. “Some kids were....” Sunny started to say. Kai butted over her, “Don't tell me you let those kids attack you again? Sunny, you can kill demons no problem but when it comes to bullies you stiffen up and act like a wimpy girl.” Kuriei started to eat her lunch while watching Kai. “Will you stop staring at me?” Kai asked looking at Kuriei. Smiling Kuriei shook her head, “Nope, not a chance. This is entertaining.” She took a bite of food and continued to stare. Kai gave up and ate her lunch. “Don't stop, I want to see more.” Kuriei complained.
Sunny kept her head down as she ate and Hiei refused to look towards the table. Kai started thinking about Kurama and Kuriei was 'pouting' about the 'no more entertainment.' Kai seemed to remember, after about ten more minutes, that Hiei was still there. “Shouldn't you go home or something?” Kai asked pointing her fork at him. Hiei glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, “I do what I want woman.” Seeing that they were going to argue Kuriei pulled out her camera and Sunny stopped eating. “Don't get that tone of voice with me.” Kai growled at Hiei. “Kaa-chan, Hiei is going to stay with me the rest of the day so I don't get in trouble with any kids. He's just looking out for me.” Sunny said in a pleading way.
Kai took a minute to absorb what Sunny said. While she was she saw a couple flashes from the corner of her eyes. Already annoyed she looked over at Kuriei, “No pictures, please.” Kuriei started to 'pout' again, “That's not fair. You took away my fun.” Kai didn't seem to care. Kai looked back at Hiei trying to figure out what she was going to say to him. When she was about to say something a girl walked over to the table. “Hi, what's your name?” She asked Hiei. Kai almost screamed at her but kept her cool.
Hiei stared at this girl for a long moment before looking away. “Um, I heard you were a new student so I thought that I would say hi.” She tried again. Kai answered for Hiei, “His name is Hiei. He's not a new student, in fact he never has been to school.” By now Hiei was death glaring Kai so much that his eyes looked closed. The girl looked around at Kai, Sunny, Kuriei and back at Hiei, “I'm sorry, please forgive me.” After that she hurried off embarrassed. Kai rolled her eyes at Hieis glare, “That doesn't work on me.” Kuriei grinned at Hiei, “Hey, I think she liked you.” Now Hiei was glaring at Kuriei.
Sunny knew that this day was only going to get worse. “That's not possible Kuriei, do you want to know why?” Kai asked looking at Sunny. “She doesn't want to know why.” Sunny said. Kuriei smiled at Kai, “Why, Kaa-chan, why?” Sunny blushed and covered her face. “Well because you see... Hiei and Sunny are already a couple, right Sunny?” Kuriei smiled wider, “They're like Testament and I, huh?” Kai nodded as Sunny looked ready to pass out. Hiei was blushing to though he just wanted to kill Kai.
After lunch was over they all headed to the same class. “You can go home Hiei. Me or Kuriei have class with her the rest of the day.” Kai said. “And you just want to get rid of me, not happening. I am staying with her because I told her I was.” Hiei said. Sunny looked confused because he never had said that, but she went with it anyways. Sunny told Kai that it was okay if Hiei wanted to stay. It was only one day.
The rest of the school day went back slower then usual. It hadn't felt that way until... “What are you saying about me Hiei?” Kai asked yelling at Hiei. “You don't have to yell. Besides, I wasn't talking about you.” He said tauntingly. Kai's body started to shake as she got madder. The kids and teacher of the class all were staring at them. Kuriei had pulled out her camera again and was talking more pictures. And Sunny ignored them and continued to finish her work.
After school let out and all four of them were off school grounds Sunny decided that it was better to split Hiei and Kai up for a bit. “Hey Hiei, would you like to come with me? I have a couple things to do today.” Sunny said. Hiei nodded. Kai looked at Sunny, “Your not coming over for tutoring?” Sunny shook her head, “I'll swing back later. A couple things came up last night and I have to get them straightened out today.” Kuriei held up her camera, “Your going to miss some good picture times.” Sunny laughed and said goodbye. When Sunny and Hiei left Kai started to tell Kuriei how she was going to break the camera if she tried to show anyone her pictures. Kuriei hid her camera from Kai, “Your not going to get it.”
Sunny and Hiei actually went to Sunny's house. Sunny lived with her older brother Tsusachi and her little brother Jessie. “I'm home and I brought Hiei with me.” Sunny said entering the house. Jessie ran right over to her, “Kaa-san welcome home.” He launched himself into her arms. She caught him easily and Hiei had put a hand on Sunny's back to steady her.
Tsusachi came around the corner and pulled Jessie from her arms. “Welcome back, you too Hiei. It's good to see you around again.” He said. Hiei nodded, “It's kinda weird to be back here.” Sunny laughed and headed to her room. “Come on Hiei.” Sunny said as she started to climb the steps to her room. Hiei followed her to her room but stopped before he entered. “Two beds?” He asked confused.
-WITH KAI AND KURIEI-
Kai grabbed Kuriei's arm, “Where do you think your going? We're in the middle of tutoring here.” Kuriei pointed to the kitchen, “I was just going to get a drink.” The direction she pointed in was where the kitchen was located but also the hallway to the bedrooms. Kai nodded, “Then I'll get it for you. You need to work on your math.” Kuriei sat back down and sighed. 'There is just no way to get around her.' She thought then grinned.
She waited till Kai had her back turned and ran down the hall to her room and locked the door. “Arg, Kuriei! You better get your butt back out here!” Kai yelled don the hall. Kai sighed and went to pick up the homework that was all over the table. “That's right Sunny said she would come over. I better go call her.” Kai said to herself.

Chapter 2
Kai picked up the phone and called Sunny. Jessie answered the phone, "Moshi moshi." "Hey Jessie its Kai, is Sunny there?" Kai asked as she watched the door to Kuriei's room "Yea, but she's in her room with Hiei right now. She said not to disturb them." Jessie said as he sat at the table. He really just didn't want to bring her the phone. "What is she doing?" Kai asked.
Kuriei cracked open her bedroom door and peeked out. "Jessie, what is going on there? What is Sunny doing with Hiei?" Kai asked her fist clentched and unclentched at her side. There was a loud sound, almost like footsteps, then a scream. "Hey Kai, what's up? I was getting ready to come over." Sunny said into the phone.
Kuriei stepped out of her room with the camera back in her hand. "Oh, alright. I'm having trouble with Kuriei again so get here fast please." She paused. "I know big surprise right?" Now she was being sarcastic.
Kuriei came around the corner and snapped a picture of Kai. “KURIEI! Sunny get here asap or before I kill this girl.” Kai said to Sunny and hung up. Kuriei ran back to her room and tried to close the door but Kai was already there. "Get to that kitchen NOW! If you don't then your on your own from here on out." Kai said and went back to the living room to do her homework.
About five minutes later, Sunny and Hiei showed up. "Hey we're here!" Sunny yelled when she walked in, Hiei right behind her. "Hey! How much work do you have to do?" Kai asked still at the table. They sat at the table and Sunny pulled out her work, "I have an essay and math to do." Kai never looked up from her work but nodded as she wrote.
Hiei looked over at Kai then back at Sunny, "Is Kuriei's dead body somewhere else?" Kai and Sunny stopped working and looked at Hiei with wide eyes. "Umm, no I didn't kill her. If she wants help she knows where I am. I sick of her not doing it." Kai said. "Well, I don't want to do mine either right now. I would do it in a bit...." Sunny said though she still worked on hers.
Kai shook her head, “Your not a problem here Sunny. If you’d like you can work on it in a bit.” Sunny looked at Kai shocked. She never, ever let her not do her homework later than right after school. Sunny was speechless.
Kuriei came out of her room again and went for the kitchen. When she opened the fridge three sets of eyes turned that way. “Hey Kuriei, what are you getting?” Sunny asked. Kuriei turned around to face them but still had a hold of the fridge, “Just a drink.” She laughed a little, almost nervously. “A drink huh? Would that be one of those Makai drinks?”
Before we knew what had happened Kai had jumped up and flew into the kitchen. “Don’t you even think about it Kuriei!” Kai yelled in her face. Sunny jumped up, “I wasn’t serious Kai! Jezz…” Hiei sat there amused by all of this. I small chuckle escaped his lips and all three girls looked at him.
“I’ll be going now. Sunny, stop by later if you get the chance.” Hiei said and ran out the front door. Kai and Kuriei grinned at Sunny making her blush. “It’s not like that.” She mumbled embarrassed. Their grins got bigger and they looked at each other. “Then what was it?” Kai asked. Rolling her eyes Sunny continued her work.
Kuriei and Kai made some drinks and cookies and brought them to the table. 'It's so fun to tease her.' Kai thought sipping on her tea. Sunny ignored them, she knew that it was pointless to try to get them to understand. “So.... what are you and Hiei going to do?” Kuriei asked. Shaking her head Sunny said nothing.
Kuriei went over to Sunny and started to poke her, “Come on, tell us or I'll keep bothering you.” Sunny, after about a minute of poking, gave up. “I'm just going over to his house to hang out, alright?” She said and looked away, “Bother someone else now.” Kuriei sat down, “Aww, your no fun. I was entertained.”
Kai looked at Kuriei, “Are you going to do some of your work?” Kuriei pouted, “That's not entertaining either.” Kai sighed and took a cookie, “Hey Kuriei, if you do your work I'll give you all the cookies you want, how about it?” Now, what would Kuriei do?

Chapter 3
Kuriei looked at Kai, “Cookie? I want cookie! Where? Where?” She started looking around. Kai smiled, “As soon as you start doing your homework, as I said.” Kuriei pouted then grumbled. “What was that?” Kai asked. With a heavy sigh she pulled out some of her homework, “Meany.”
Sunny listened to them as she worked on her report. She heard Kai get up to go to the kitchen. “Don't you have homework to do Kai?” Kuriei asked as she opened her textbook. Kai opened the cabinet and pulled out a cookie mix. “I do. Though I have almost straight A's.” She said. She pulled out more cooking supplies.
Sunny threw her pen down on the table and stood up. “Man, that was so confusing.” She said as she went to the kitchen. “Done, huh?” Kai asked as Sunny opened the fridge. She pulled put some OJ, “With the report, yes. It was so hard, I barely understood it.” She got a glass and poured the OJ in it.
Kuriei, after about five minutes, put her pencil down, “I need help.” Kai turned on the mixer, “Just a minute Kuriei.” Sunny chuckled as she went back to sit at the table. “What's so funny?” Kuriei asked. Sunny sat down, “Huh? Oh, I was just thinking to myself, that's all.”
Sunny sat her glass down and continued on with her work. “I don't know how you can do your work. It's too hard for me.” Kuriei said. “It is hard, but I know I have to do it.” Sunny never looked up from her work.
Kai pout the cookies in the oven and walked over to the table. She looked over Sunny's shoulder at her work and nodded to herself. “Alright Kuriei, what do you need help on?” Kai asked. Kuriei looked at the book then her paper, “Umm... all of it.” Kai sighed and sat down next to her.
About an hour later Sunny yawned and stretched, “Man, I'm tried.” Kai looked up from her work, “Your done?” With another yawn Sunny nodded. She wondered in the kitchen for more cookies. “Are you going to leave?” Kai asked Sunny.
Thinking about what Hiei had said Sunny blushed but didn't say anything. “Sunny? Are you going to leave?” Kai asked again. Sunny took a couple deep breaths to calm her racing heart before she answered. “I was going to call Hiei first.” She said not able to hold her blush back.
Sunny grabbed a couple cookies then grabbed the phone and headed down the hall. “Mind if I use your room Kai?” She called down the hall. Hearing a “Go ahead” she walked into Kai's room. When she closed the door she leaned against it clutching the phone to her chest.
Out at the table Kai and Kuriei continued their homework. “Just two more months Kuriei.” Kai said. That's all they had left to high school. Kuriei grinned, “Then it's party time the rest of our lives.” Kai rolled her eyes.
The next morning, Kai got up and went to Kuriei's room. She knocked first and went she didn't hear anything she walked into the room. “Kuriei, come on get up. You got five minutes and I expect you in that kitchen.” Kai said turning on the light and closing the door again.
She heard a groan and a thud and smiled. Kuriei was getting up. She went to the kitchen and went she turned on the light there was a knock on the front door. Wondering who it was she went to answer it.
“Who is it?” She called through the door, her hand on the lock and door knob. “It's Sunny.” She heard back. Shocked she opened the door, “Sunny? What are you doing up so early?” Sunny came in and Kai closed the door. “Sorry about showing up like this. I got up like an hour ago.” She said as she set down her book bag.
“What did you and Hiei do last night?” Kai asked heading back to the kitchen. Sunny followed after her, “Not much. Yusuke showed up almost an hour after I got there. Some C class demon is hanging around the barrier and Koenma just wants them to check it out.”
Kai nodded and started making breakfast. She made eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast every morning. “Really? I kinda hope the demon attracts others to it somehow. We need the money right now.” Kai said. Sunny chuckled, “Never thought that you'd want a mission to go on.” She paused for a second, “Besides, I thought you were getting money another way. What happened there?”
Kai's body stiffened up for a second before it relaxed again. Sunny's eyes narrowed in suspicion, “Kai? What happened? What are you hiding?” Kai smiled and shook her head which made Sunny not so happy.
“GOOD MORNING!” Kuriei yelled coming around the corner from the hall. Sunny jumped and Kai's eyes flew wide open. “Not so loud Kuriei.” Kai said, “There are others still sleeping.”
