Haha My brother ChibiSephiroth was named after Calvin and my mom tattooed the Calvin and Hobbs wagon picture on my dad's butt cheek.

...I personally never got into it.

Really? so you know for example, what pascal's wager is? you know about ethical theorie? about the philosopher Thomas Hobbes and John Calvin and the polarity in their ideas? do you get all the criticisms to politics, art academia, and all the life metaphors? There are also things about the childhood of Calvin that could not be appreciated by a young person since it is only after having lived the moment and assimilated it that you find it amusing.

The comic is simple and funny. But there is more than meets the eye and once you catch it it is exponentially better.

You make it sound like every strip is a gem of intelligence, and if one doesn't understand it, said individual must just be ignorant -- which isn't true.

You ever hear that quote about analyzing humor and dissecting a frog?

^ Not really. I was not making a generalization. That would be pretty silly, since it's a very general comic. I was simply saying there is more than meets the eye in some of the thousands of strips that were made.
