If you study and understand, then you'll learn. But if you'll just study and memorize, that's not learning.

we learn from studying but the thing is that learning is a process. if you learned something and you don't like what youve learned, the tendency is you forget it(the learning process is not complete). but once you have the interest on what youve been studying, then that's a time that you learn and in some times apply what youve learn...

and yeah, learning is through experience. experience in learning how to solve math problems or so is an experience that youve done mostly in school. it is your choice if you really want to learn it or not.

interest is a great motivation.

from my own experience, i only learned about the things we studied in college when i actually decided i wanted to learn and know more about it... and that happened after i graduated and was already working.

That makes just one point, and that's about the ethics of being a "student".

And it's wrong. I'll tell you why.

The student feels the need to learn that which is already known, yes, but not to them. They know that there are facts about this or that, but don't know any of the details, and so undergo the process of learning the details and committing them to memory. That is learning itself, committing to memory things you previously didn't know.

i think studying is the supplememtary action for learning because it is a way for people to understand previous topics that are not that clear to them thus resulting to a process of learning.

(i don't even know if i'm saying relevent things...lol)

This might have been addressed somewhere in this thread but I'm to lazy to read anything but the last page. So my question is for the people who think experience is the best path to knowledge. How do you "experience" DNA translation, quadratic functions, and the French Revolution? Is experience really the best way to learn anything?

There is no genreal rule. Some things are mostly experience, like bicycling. Some things are pure memorizing, like history. Some are based on understanding, like mathematics. No matter how many physics books I read, I would never be good at physics. You need to have a mind that digest and understand it, which mine don't. I consider physics very important, and when I actually mange to undertsand I usually find it interesting, but I just don't have a mind that understands physics very well. You can not lay out a genreal rule, lest it is a philosphical "we can't be sure of anything therefore there is no sure learning".

the only reason some one cant learn form studying is that they dont know how. simply reading something over and over will not help. you have to read it then ask questions about it and find them. also you need to do thing that make you recall the information in different ways. and the most important part of studying is SLEEP!!! yes sleep that is because when u sleep your brain organizes, and stores information.
