Though quotes might not be of any real evidence to support the argument, they do appeal to people especially those who don't look too deeply into the rest of the argument. Its kinda sad actually, how people will stick to opinions of ppl from the past rather than finding their own, just bcuz of some clever saying thats been arround for ages. Its like "ooh that sounds cool lets agree w/ that person."
one i personally don't like is
"God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve"

OTOH for those who form their own opinion sometimes quotes just have a really good way of putting what you were trying to say, and who am i kidding they can be really fascinating and mind opening sometimes.
but i think what it comes down to is whether or not the person listening to the argument cares about anything but the bedazzling quotes.

Love isn't sentiment. Indulging in sensation is a process of thought, and thoughts arent love. Sentimentality and emotion are just sensations, self-expansion. A sentimental person can be cruel when is sentiments arent responded to, they can be stirred to hatred, war and butchery. Obviously, thats not love.

Love isn't possession. From possession arises jealousy, because when you lose them you feel empty. Where theres possession there's jealousy, fear and immense amount of problems. That's not love.

Love is not forgiveness. To forgive someone is denying your resent for what that person did to you. Its not about the other person, its about you, you're the one who's forgiving.

Love is not respect only for those above you. Your respect for your superiors is respect that comes from wanting something, from fear. If you really felt respect, you'd respect the people below you.

Love is not praying. Since you are possessive, you seek an end, a result, through devotion, through prayer, which makes you sentimental, emotional.

When these things disappear, when these things dont occupy the mind and when the things of the mind dont fill your heart, then there is love. Then love is not quantitative, but qualitative. Love cannot be thought about, love cannot be cultivated, love cannot be practiced. When you love, there is neither one nor many: there is only love.

-J Krishnamurti.
