screw jimmy page he stole music and in my opinion thats the worst thing a musician can do SLASH ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!

slash is good but HENDRIX is GOD

Agreed.

Come on guys, I'm tired of hearing "SLASH ROXZ0Rzz!1!" or "Jimmy Page iz t3h shitz". I know that they made really great and memorable melodies, but they are far from being the best skill-wise. Those guys are terribly overrated. Most people consider these guys as the best, because they have not seen other underrated, undiscovered guitarists.

Only few people are really worthy of all the praise they deserve. Like Joe Satriani (as I am a HUGE Satch fanboy), or Eric Johnson, which are the TRUE guitar gods. Sure Hendrix did incredibly unbelievable shit at his time, but so many has surpassed him in skill (but maybe not creativity) already. People stray too much in the past that the forget that there WILL be new Jimi Hendrixes and Jimmy Pages, so it would be best to pay them their dues as great guitarists of the past and honor their contributions to the art form. But most importantly, retire them from all the praise and glory which should be directed elsewhere.

PS,
Jani Liimatainen from Sonata Arctica owns all of those guys LAWL

You must be one of those guys that think that you need to think of some undiscovered artist to sound smart and cool. Jimi is great. I like him for his feel for the music. Many guitarist these days play extremely good but they do not feel the music. They are like robots up there or they act like they feel it.

Right judge me. Since you're judging me and all by using your mad skillz of deductive reasoning, maybe I should do the same to you. Hmm.. from what you wrote, I decided that you must one those naive expert-wannabes that just say that Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist ever since he's at the top of a list on Rolling Stone magazine. Congratulations on being a conformist zealot.

Mind you, I don't utter names of unknown artists just to look smart and cool (and I really don't see how that would make me look smart and cool), I only say that because it is the truth and I am not the type of person to glorify shitty talent.

Oh and ". Jimi is great. I like him for his feel for the music. Many guitarist these days play extremely good but they do not feel the music. They are like robots up there or they act like they feel it.".. Well, last time I checked music is something you listen to ergo, NOT something to "feel" or whatever that means. Like it or not, making faces as if your nut is being grabbed by a monkey doesn't make you any better that any other guitarist out there. If that's your only reason why you think Hendrix is the best, I'm sorry for you.

If you do not know what it means to feel the music then you have no right to even speak as if you know what music is supposedto be for. By the way, I am no fan of Rolling Stone. These days they have crappy musical artists. I will take back what I said before about you being one of those guys that like to bring out artist just to sound smart and cool, but learn what the feel of the music is then maybe you will understand what I meant about Jimi.

No shit? I have no right to speak about the purpose of music? That's great Mr. Zen Buddhist of Music "Feeling". I really do not have even the slightest clue about your delusions on music, but from what I learned from my studies of modes, scales, harmonizations and triads, nothing of this "feeling" ever came up. I understand the concept of "creativity and visualization" though. Which I agree that Hendrix excels on every aspect. However, his talent will be, as stated by my original point, surpassed by an even bigger and better artist and I think that glorifying him further is like beating upon a dead dog. To quote what I said earlier:

"People stray too much in the past that they forget that there WILL be new Jimi Hendrixes and Jimmy Pages, so it would be best to pay them their dues as great guitarists of the past and honor their contributions to the art form. But most importantly, retire them from all the praise and glory which should be directed elsewhere."

By the way, I cited Rolling Stone only as a paradigm for your mentality. I did not intend exactly as it is.

You won't find the feeling of music from studies. As I have said when you learn of it then you will understand. But from what I have seen so far, your arragance knows no end. You will take everything I am trying to say and make it as if I am insulting you. Some day you may learn.

Yes, Mr. Miyagi. Someday, I will understand this nonexistent concept of "feeling". Someday, I will look back, and reflect upon your wisdom. I really hope to put an end to my "arragance". Thank you, for teaching me how to put up an argument of no substantial connotations whatsoever.

No problem. Any time you feel like being taught a lesson then just message me.

Couldn't find this thread after looking for a bit, it may not exist, or I couldn't find it, or It counts as best artists, but whatever.

My votes for the best:
1.Jimmy Page
1.Jimi Hendrix
3.Eric Clapton

these three being the best because they have skill and are very emotional in the way they play (i would say more but i accidently turned on sticky keys f***ing microsoft)

What the hell? 4 pages and no one has mentioned Jason Becker, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Paul Gilbert? Shame on you! By the way, there is no such thing as the best guitarist. The word best is merely an opinion.
