For the most part, I just pick a manga that attracts me by art. If the art isn't somewhat good, or if little nitpicky things distract me from the story, I'm not going to be able to read that manga. That was the main reason I dropped the Black Cat manga. I loved the story, but the art seemed to regress when the characters were standing still, as opposed to the action, which was really well drawn.

(this is coming from a person who has no formal art training and is the opinion of said person)

absolutely nothing, I can tolerate reading, but I can't stand reading something similar to comics. I have to watch it.

art and plot. That was basically the main reason why I gave up on Naruto....and is giving up on Bleach if it isn't ending soon.

The art and the plot are what makes me wanna read it. The story has to not drag on so long, but it can't be too short either (though in some cases, it's a good thing). I can deal with oneshots, but I start crying if a really good manga with a really good story and art ends just after 1 or 2 volumes. I also don't like really stereotypical plots that you can find everywhere.

art - if the art is crap is not worth reading
plot - it has to be good. doesnt drag 4 too long
character - the character have 2 be cute and hot! lol.
