If it's gotten good reviews or conversely if someone trashes a Manga for being too "sweet or nice" I'll read it as a basically big "forget you!" to the original reviewer. That's one of the reasons I started reading Fruits Basket is because Tohru Honda kept getting slammed as being too nice. one person on a podcast even referred to he derisively as "the Moe Jesus" which just made me want to read the sereis even more to see if that was a fair assessment. Or I just read something because it strikes my fancy or it's written by a person or group that I like (I'll snap up anything by Clamp if I can get my hands on it). Also if it's a genre I like if it's a Shojo manga I'll probably pick it up because it's a Shojo manga

what i look for in a good manga is...
-a good and interesting story line
-the drawings. im very picky
-if the (main) characters are not annoying. most girls in mangas tend to be annoying, so i dont read much shoujo.

I read it because it's like a book but with pictures and less words. I love the stories and the art it makes it enjoyable.

Definitely the art is what first attracts me, If the art doesn't strike my fancy then I generally won't even bother to look into it.

I guess the plot most of all (if it's interesting or really creative). But I also sometimes look at the artwork- if it's really bad, I probably won't read it... (too picky probably)

The art, most definitely. If I'm going to read a comic for a long period of time, I would want to look at something I like and that I can follow easily.

the drawing first draw me in, but after that its all about the story and characters.
