Great art, Interesting or Great story that has meaning and non-cliche ideology like Tenjho Tengay, and some awesome, badass, and well developed characters. Also awesome action scenes and a little bit of senseful romance.

The drawing is what gets me on starting. If I approve of the artistic work, I will give it a try. If not, then it's my lost for not giving it a try.

Although I've been disappointed big time with Fairy Tail. Boy what a load of crap that was (I meant the story, the art is fantastic).

And with the art giving me a start, then I guess whether or not the story suits my taste or not. It doesn't have to be good, as long as it keeps me thinking about it, then I'm hooked.

I'm a sucker for beautiful art! But it's a deal breaker if the story turns out too boring. ( ̄ー ̄)

The story, characters and/or art.
My favorite manga had some horrible artwork in the beginning and still is a bit odd, but the story is great and the characters are realistic, but lovable and unique in their own rights. (ookiku furikabutte)

But most of the time art reels me in, too

A sexy looking person on the cover is what draws me to manga first, but mostly it's the plot.

First I look for a nice cover. Then i flip through the pages to see the illustrations. If the art is satisfying I start reading it. If the writing sucks I toss it and find another one.

So in order of what attracts me to it most.

1. Cover art. (Catches my eye.)

2. Illustrations on the inside. (I'm an artist so I like seeing unique stuff that really stands out from the rest.)

3. The story. (This ties everything together. Without a good story, no matter how good the art is, I simply stop reading it.)

I need the art to be decent, I really need it or I cannot bring myself to read a lot of it. And I need an interesting story line. I love for it to be completed and to have a minimum of twenty chapters!

1: Plot
2: Art style
3: Sexy characters or even loli characters.
4: If those are met(almost are 100% of the time) it has to have good character development. Or at least something that is different to me.

1. I'm too impatient to wait a week to see what happens in the Anime version.
2. The Anime ended abruptly yet the manga still continues.
3. The manga version had more and/or longer chapters or arcs.
4. The manga version had a different or better version of the story (i.e. Real Bout High School, Rah-Xephon)
5. It's a continuation or a spin-off or alt-universe of a franchise I'm interested in (i.e. Read or Dream, NGE:Shinji Raising Project, etc.)

I usually look at the covers and the back of the manga, which usually has a sum of whats beginning without telling to much. I like when the art style is done nicely, because I love having artists to look up to and it makes the manga even funner to read. Well at least for me! ^w^

What matters most is the plot, then the art/illustration. I can sit well with poorly illustrated mangas as long as there's a story to follow. But with well illustrated mangas without substance, I cannot.
