I'm reviving this because it's Monster & it deserves to be loved.

What on earth is going on with the movie? :/ I haven't heard anything else about it since it was first announced. It's supposed to come out in 2007 though.

I finished watching it last night...

There is no single emotion or adjective to describe this anime.

I will admit there were a few episodes that didn't seem necessary, but it was nice to see how Temna proved his humanity over and over again.

Wolfgang Grimmer and Inspector Runge were the favorite characters in the anime.

Johan is just one of those twisted villains who you can despise and at the same time pity because it wasn't his fault he turned out the way he did.

I reccommend this anime so take afew days and watch it!!.

[***SPOILERS AHEAD***](seriously, if you haven't seen the ending, but plan to watch it, skip the rest of this post)

The irony of the ending was fantastic. Johan tries to achieve the perfect suicide by killing off everyone who knew of his existance: to die without a name. He basically achieves his goal, and is ready to die, and threatens a child to force Temna to shoot him, but of all the people, it was a drunk that shot him. The drunk mumbled something about a monster with multiple heads/appendages; that child was his son. Yet, the irony, Johan isn't dead, and guess who performs the surgery to remove the bullet. At the end, it shows how everyone is doing; Temna visits Johan, who has been unconscious since the operation, though the last scene reveals that Johanis no longer in his bed.

I still don't understand everything, if anything at all really, but Johan did what he did because he was unsure if his mother "was protecting him, or had mistaken him for his sister." There's obviously alot more to this.

That is exactly how I feel about it. I simply cannot put into words just how amazing that series is.

The storybook part and crossdressing!Johan were just..wow. So many parts of the story made sense after that. And the ending..oh my god.

I hated how the show kept teasing the viewers by making everyone think that we'd finally learn their real names, and then we never did.

The religious references were just brilliant & so chilling.

Well after the cross dressing, the "I'm home" "Welcome back" part was obvious. My only minor qualm was the level of coincidence that kept giving Temna clues to keep moving forward. I found it amusing that people would say stuff like "Japanese man saved us..." and the cops would be like "...but he's a serial murder suspect."

I felt sorry for Eva until she said she would ruin Temna, who promptly retired. Then I felt sorry for her again.

Those books were really something... I suppose one interpretation is that the monster who didn't try to get a name was Nina, and almost like the story, she almost lost her life because of the monster who wanted to get a name. I really felt sorry for Nina.

Shounen... Hmmmm. It's classified as shonen but I don't see any difference, both genders would love it.

Its my all time favorite series that exceeds the 2 season mark. To me, all the episodes were good. The earlier episodes were really good, but not what you should expect from the series. I first thought it was something about the morale of doctors and such and then it became something COMPLETELY different.
