OH GOD YES.

I thought they were just cute pictures until the episode aired explaining the book. D: Then it became so, so creepy.

I want that book so bad. I've heard that there are copies available online but I have yet to find one. :/

Man it's a shame not a lot of people know about this. Everyone's currently into Naruto or Deathnote or whatever. Hehe I love the 1st ending theme of Monster but I also think the opening is great too, such drama! The amazing thing is at 74 episodes there are no filler episodes...it's really faithful to the manga. Wow so they sell copies of the creepy picture book online? where?? oh by the way, I heard the live action movie for Monster isn't coming out till 2009...nooo too long! well anyway, I have watched the series in it's entirety and I'm absolutely speechless! It took me a while to finish but the ending was worth it!! I want to rant on it but I'm afraid that some people haven't gotten that far so I won't spoil it...

The picture book was originally sold with the last volume of the manga.

There are supposedly two MONSTER movies coming out.

& spoil all you want. That's why there's a warning in the title.

MONSTER had filler episodes as well.

Two movies? you sure about that? The only one I know of is the one on imdb. The one that's approved by New Line Cinema.
Well anyway, ok..let's see..my thoughts on the whole series...one of my favorite moments was the episode where Johan and Tenma confronted each other over the fire in that library...after waiting so long, that was definitely one of the moments I was waiting for. lol, though it was obvious that Tenma wasn't gonna shoot. The episode when Grimmer first comes out is a good one too. I always thought that Grimmer was more down-to-earth and relaxed...everyone else just seems so uptight and intense. His deathscene was one of the best deathscenes ever...it was just so emotionally dramatic..with him sitting there bleeding to death...oh god and then came the tears with him saying, "I'm not crying because I'm going to die, I'm crying because my son is dead." I actually started crying too when he said that. hehe, first time I ever cried while watching anime. boy i feel stupid. Wow and the ending...that was REALLY something. I loved how the past came together...the storybook, Franz Bonaparta and the twin's mom Anna, Nina being the "result" of the superior race experiment, Johan's screwed up memories, the mother's choosing between the twins. The greatest twist was when Johan realized his mistake and that all the things he did...the killings, the Schuwald incident all amounted to nothing. It's kinda sad if you think about it..Bonaparta was actually trying to keep the twins from becoming monsters. Johan's worst fear is the monster devouring his sister so he set out to destroy his past and the "monster growing inside him" who he thinks is from Bonaparta...oh the irony...just when I thought I had it all figured out, the anime twists everything up and only in the end, it finally makes sense. The scene in the end with Johan and Tenma really leaves it up to the audience's imagination...personally I think that the talk between the two actually did happen. Johan asks Tenma whether his mother really meant to abandon him, I've always wondered why Anna hesitated when choosing between the twins...makes me believe that this was the true reason why Johan became who he is.
eeehhh holy damn, sorry about the looong post. I got carried away...

From what I've read, the movie will be in English, as opposed to a Japanese movie. I've also heard some rumors that Tenma might be changed into an American.

Johan must be perfect. He has to be beautiful and soft-spoken & yet able to be scary as hell.

I think it'd be fucking awesome if Hugo Weaving played Lunge.

...but if they change Tenma into an American, then the name would have to change as well... darn, was kinda hoping for a Japanese Tenma. Yeah, I agree they mess up Johan, then they butcher the whole thing. lol, I could definitely see Weaving as Lunge. I think casting the twins would be the most difficult. Hmm..I can see Sharon Stone as Eva.

FUCK. I was really confused when you mentioned only one movie was being made, since I originally heard there were going to be two, and it turns out only one is going to be made now. Shit. This fucking sucks. I was extremely skeptical as to how they'd tell the story with two movies, and now it's only down to one?! :/

:/ I apologize for double-posting, but I can't seem to edit my posts right now.

Anyway, obviously casting twins would be ideal (since Johan eventually disguises himself as Nina); however, make-up can work wonders.

well the thing is, I've only heard about one movie that is currently in production and will be released in 2009, I also heard that Josh Olson was doing the screenplay. I don't know how they're gonna manage to squeeze a 74 ep series into a 2hr film...they might make a sequel..who knows but so far it's just this one that's being made.

Did you hear about it recently? When the news was first announced (back in 2005), articles mentioned two movies. They must have changed it not too long ago.

It appears they've also pushed back the release date. The first movie was supposed to come out this year. However, maybe the script had to be rewritten or something, now that there's only one movie.

Either way, this is damn depressing. There's no possible way to tell the whole story in two hours - four if it's a longer movie. :/ I wonder what's getting cut. In an interview I read ages ago, Olson said that he had looked at Monster forums to see what fans were talking about, and he mentioned that he felt terrible, because all the parts they said they hoped would stay there he had cut.

Yeah I heard about it this year. ah geez, what's the point of making a single 2 hr movie on a 74 ep series...they may as well not call base it on Monster, I mean so many things are going to be left out. Maybe it'll just be a ripoff from The Fugitive. Damn, though I seriously hope that's not the case.
