Well I was browsing through Digg and came across this article about three kids (7,8, and 9) that stripped a six year old then pushed him into a lake. The six year old couldn't swim and drowned o_o

Apparently (from the article and comments I read pertaining to it) all they can do is hand the kids over to their parents since their under the age of 12?!

That's life here in Manitoba.

Last month we caught one of three kids breaking into our car and held him for police. There's a sense of inevitability here: He confirmed to police that he was going up and down the back lane breaking into cars, that he had been caught doing it before, and that the large flat screwdriver he was carrying was for busting locks. Being too young to charge, they turned him over to his parents. The next day the kid was overheard bragging about getting a ride in a police car. And that night our car was broken into again, with the lock damaged by large screwdriver.

It's illegal to name or identify a minor who committed a crime, except to police. We've been warned that we could get in a lot of trouble if we try to warn others about which kids are doing the break-ins and vandalism.

Our police are excellent. They're just not allowed to do anything except hand the kids back to the parents.

Actually I think this is a show that Canada has less criminal action than America. Children kill each other here all the time, and it’s not even mentioned in the news. It’s really a daily thing, what with adolescent gangs and all. Then again, these guys are pretty young.

Well, that’s something they’ll live with for the rest of their lives. Eventually that’s going to really bite them in the but, regardless of how the police respond. They’re lives are essentially ruined. There is no chance for a successful life (unless they happen to win the lottery, or something…) and they’re not likely to make many friends. These boys are street rats in the making. Ostracized by everyone who’s ‘not trash’ (following social rules, not my opinion obviously. To me you’re all trash! :P) they wont have much choice but crime. That is, if Canada’s social system is anything like Americas.

Murderers don’t get a -real- second chance here…

Thats gay, a murder is a murder no matter what your age is. I say send those kids to third world countries as punishment for like a couple months and if they die their then so be it. Or send them to my house and I'll personally see to it that they pay for their crimes.
