Yes, but to be fair, even if the art work is bad, if a friend really recommends it then I'd give it a fair chance on plot/comedy.

Covers are important because it's what captivates the reader and so that is the slight issue with me. I have to look at the art first and then the story, that's my issue but sometimes if I hear their is a good manga but with not the best art, hey, I'd read it and get used to the art.

I usually look at the latest volume cover of a manga, since the art tends to evolve throughout its run, but I still judge by the covers.

Yeah, at least a bit. I don't read manga with art styles I don't like, so it's important for me.

Despite how much people tell you not to judge a book by its cover, we will invariably judge it. And I can tell you I've only been wrong a few times. It's pretty easy to tell if a manga will definitely not suit your fancies or if its art style will give you some issues maintaining an interest. Of course, reading the summary is helpful too.

Yeah... The worst one was with Fairy Tail. I didn't even give it a second glance, anime or manga, just because of the first cover. Now it's one of my favorites..

I did for Itsuwaribito as well as D. Grey Man and a few others and I felt like the series was going to be good...and I was right. I also kinda do for the spinal covers.

Hm, this is a good question. I would say yes, but its not always the case for me.

When i'm going there for a certain title, or to see if an anime i watched has manga in stores then i don't judge.

If i'm just looking for a new manga series to read thats kinda when i judge. I look for names i recognize first then look at the cover. Then ill flip through the book and see if its interesting, and read the back for information.

I try not to judge by cover, especially since some are very misleading for the art in the book. (Toradora for example. I hate the cover but the art is normal inside)

But the cover is the main reason i picked up Alice in the Country of Clover, that and its based on my favorite disney movie.

I would have never picked up Kimi Ni Todoke Manga if i hadn't seen the anime first.
