Gardening TIP!

Just learned about this this weekend (actually last night so on monday)

Hate the dirt and grime that gets under your nails from gardening?
Scrape your nails along a bar of soap before heading out to the garden!
When you wash your hands afterward, the soap will dissolve and you will have NO dirt UNDER your nails!!!

^^ Even better; wear gardening gloves! (just shake them out before putting them on, in case there is a wasp nesting in them.)

^ Don't you need to protect your lovely manicured hands?

And besides, if you're messing with thorny plants, or clearing stinging nettles they're a good idea.

^naaaaa, i've got ways of dealing with nettles and sticker plants...
and i don't grow any thorny plants... i have a child...

ways to handle nettles without hurting your bare hand:

Step 1, use your foot and step near the bottom of the plant (note jeans work well here)
Step 2, Move your foot over the base of the weed, and step on it. effecitvely bending the stalk of the weed down.
Step 3, Take your cutters and snip it, some sawing action may be needed for the larger ones.
Step 4, Use the dandylion weeds you just pulled from the other side of your garden to wrap around the bottom of the stalk and carry to burn pile/compost heap/waste can - where ever you dispose of weeds at.

Wow two birds with one stone!
Got rid of your dandylions AND the nettles... YAY

Alll without gloves... so you can smoke the entire time

^ *rolls eyes* That sounds like it would take so long.
If you're good at it you can pinch the nettle and pull it up, but you have to do each plant individually. It's much easier to wear gloves when clearing large patches.
... I wouldn't claim that being able to continue smoking was an advantage.

Now dandylions... they are annoying! - it's best to pick the seeds off the lawn when they blow into the garden, because they have really long roots, which if not removed completely can result in the growth of another dandylion the following year. If you do have dandylions use a long thin trowel (not sure what it's called) to dig down beside the base of the plant and ensure that you remove the whole root. - don't go ruining your lawns though.

eh, i'm lazy so my nettles are about waist high....

the dandylions.... best way to get those is with a dandylion popper... little metal prong looking thing, you wiggle it down next to the weed and little flick of the wrist, buh bai dandylion!

i'm SOOOO not going to go pick dandylion seeds off an acre of land... not gonna happen.
For my lawn, i pay a service to come out and treat my lawn... they treat it for dandylions and grubs, and put fertilizer on it.... My lawn looks like a carpet, and is as soft as one!
