Well, for the earthquakes that occur in Asia, they usually only occur in Japan, South Korea, Costal China, the Philippines, Borneo, Indonesia, and other nations that run the Asian borders of the Pacific Ocean.

These nations are part of what is called the "Pacific Ring of Fire". That's because earthquakes are the result of tectonic plates (think of them as scales of the planet) bumping against one another. The major, continental plates, are those that cause earthquakes along the Pacific Ring of Fire.

^ It's actually not as bad as you think.... since we're subject to these earthquakes and typhoons, we've pretty much developed systems to detect early on possible disturbances... even volcanic eruptions (which can be caused by earthquakes as well).

i dont think that this always the best thing to do i have heard of many instances where bridges have colapsed during major earthquakes but if there is no safe open space it might be worth the risk
