I think Anime is Sexist but not in the reasons that you've mentioned. Have you noticed how Very Stupid Anime girls is revered as ditzy and cute? Stupidness is supposed to symbolize female innocence. Whereas Male roles have characters that are opposite, the more intellectual type. This is not the model for every anime, but you do notice this trend in characteristic when portraying a female character in anime. And if there is an echi anime with a bunch of female characters with lots of different characteristics, the dominant or the main lead female character is generally the Stupid, ditzy innocent one. Not the Emo chick, the Glasses Chick, the Samurai Chick etc.

exactly, and that's why i hate it because it makes women look down....

Animes were made by the Japanese, who are sex-maniacs. Therefore, women will be portrayed as stupid sex objects. It's just the way it goes.

it is just business, for guy they make a dude the main character and for women they make chicks the main character, it is just marketting, you wont make sweets for kids to adults...or adult stuff to kids

Sexism in anime, what do you guys think?
I was raised to be indifferent in gender. (although my attraction falls towards the female sex.. meaning that I'm heterosexual.) But that isn't the point I'm trying to make..

Do you think there is sexism in anime?
I often see it.. Many shounen anime have the male characters as the most dominant characters.. Even though they sometimes have kickass girls who fight, they're almost always used as support characters.. "Dragon Ball, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece" one of the reasons I dislike them..
On occasions it's the opposite direction towards magical girl manga, where there are few or almost no male characters at all..

Romances go both ways a lot of the time, but sometimes, even they may be sexist..

It's alright to think that way for olden times when women still had no rights.. But equality is lacking for anime that are placed in modern times...

I think this is true..

I agree fully. lets take naruto for example. the author made sakura, the only girl in team 7 totally weak. even when she got stronger she was still weaker than the rest of them and she was mostly cut off in the later episodes

sex sells, so yeah. you would not want a female leading character to be manly and have man features do you?

but the main girl in Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi isn't portrayed as the dumb, cute, sex toy who has no brains, still she isn't portrayed with a man features or as a manly girl.....
and i gave up watching many anime because of this sexism, and we can clearly see that in harem anime where all the girls fall for the same guy.......

that isn't fully true, even when the main character is female, the girl is usually kind of stupid and ditzy.

Well, some of it might sexist. However, this is anime and is not reality. When you said you didn't like naruto and the other crap because it's kind of Sexist. Each and every single anime are made to aim at different sex and age group. The magical girls type are usual aimed at guys, on the other hand Naruto, bleach or one piece etc. Are really aimed at both sex. They aren't meant to be sexist. It's just that the Gender that are used in the anime will affect the kind of people that will watch it.

Did i make any sense?

That is completely right! Take into account Fruits Basket and Ouran high school host club. The target Audience is for girls in both these anime. Pretty hot guys in these anime. Now, if you will, take into account Vandread and Love Hina. Extremely prime chicks in both these anime.

Now I would like to talk about my theory of how there are three types of anime. The first type is the story anime. This type of anime is targeted at both genders for a wide audience and stick to the story rather than just fan service. I think that a prime example for this is Gensou maden Saiyuki. This anime stick well to the story line and provide great fan service to both genders what with having those hot chicks with big tits that appear for one episode and then gone the next and the ever popular Saiyuki boys. These guys grab alot of attention and believe me I know. My girlfreind is totally into Gojyo, but Sanzo still manages to make the most popular. (maybe its cuzza the blonde hair?)

The second type is what I like to call, the one sided story anime. (one sided meaning one sided sex) These wouldbe two of the four examples above, Vandread and Fruits basket. These two anime really follow the story lines and rarely wonder off topic, but are still one sided in their fan service. In fruits baskets theres not really any top chicks, though the art does make them quit pretty, then again the art only make the boys more astonishing! If I could look like anyone in the world, it would be Kyo. Vandread follows really close aswell, but once again is VERY one sided. The main character, Hibiki, is short, obnoxiouse and very rude. Not anything like what girls are looking for, but EVERY GIRL on the show is PRIME! (if anything their tits are a bit too big...) GO DITA! Another two examples I just remembered would be ghost in the shell and Evangelion. If you're a girl raise your hand if you would date Shinji, Toji, Kensuke or kowaru ...(krickets)... Now if you're a guy raise your hand if you would date Asuka, Rei, Misato or Ristuko... O.K! Put 'em down fellas!

Finally, the third type, otaku (is there a different name for girls ones?) Basically a perv fest with bugger all story line. Love Hina and Ouran. 'nuff sed.

In conclusion, anime is not sexist. Just aiming for particular audiences, like Kurten99 sed. snaps for Kurten!

Thankyou for reading this! Atomsk

It's more of a case of character archetypes than sexism. The target demographic is also taken into account. I don't think girls are going to trade their bishounen for those wimpy harem/ecchi protagonists anytime.

lol I would have to agree with that one
