It 's true. I used to think there was more of this in Anime, though, when there was more sexual assault/rape stuff in some of the more graphic Anime like the Ninja Scroll movie and especially the old-school Overfiend shows. Yeouch! Man, those were too brutal, and they treated women REAL BAD! There have still been some that have that "too much boob grabbing" thing going on (Ai Yori Aoshi; Please Twins; Melancholy), and they seemed to portray that this was somehow OK. Again, I dont' see this kind of stuff in other types of media. Hopefully, it goes away in Anime.

I think Anime is Sexist but not in the reasons that you've mentioned. Have you noticed how Very Stupid Anime girls is revered as ditzy and cute? Stupidness is supposed to symbolize female innocence. Whereas Male roles have characters that are opposite, the more intellectual type. This is not the model for every anime, but you do notice this trend in characteristic when portraying a female character in anime. And if there is an echi anime with a bunch of female characters with lots of different characteristics, the dominant or the main lead female character is generally the Stupid, ditzy innocent one. Not the Emo chick, the Glasses Chick, the Samurai Chick etc.

I agree with you on this as well.. Girl characters are often given huge boobs and almost no personalities.. Their personalities all seem to be based on single traits.. klutzy, innocent, aggressive, quiet, straight forward, smart or naive... Female characters that actually have "personalities" are lacking..

toinkz.....its not about them being like that...its what you call fan service.....huge tits...stupid personallity or even ditzyness is what you call a "MOE" point.....if you dont understand about this....you havent yet receive the rights to say this shit about sexism....or even a true anime otaku.....nobody cares about that shit....

frankly i dont care..like what they say...its the story that counts....certain characters were meant to be weak and some strong to show a difference in audience....the reason for the stroy to progress and to have atleast one damsel in distress...or a guy in distress..i dont know who to put that one thou....

its like saying theres sexism in the disney movie 101 dalmatians...because deville is a bitch.....

or in cinderella....or even in snow white....and other fairytales as well...

there is a lot of unsexist anime.
just because the female isn;t dominate doesn't mean the anime is flawed.
the female has feminist traits to her which makes her more appealing than otherwise
males pride themselves in strenght while female pride themselves in beauty and getting along with people

what the hell? how is that sexism
ok there are 2 sexes
its either male/female
so ur dominant characters will be one or the other
i means even shitty naruto has a female (tsunade) as a hokage
u r thinking too much
sexism not in terms of character
but i think in terms of fan service
lots of boobs for dudes who like it
coz u're not gonna have lots of d!cks for girls

Well.. Think of it like this.. These days, anime have almost no storyline at all and revolve purely around fan-service and attracting people through the soul fact that they might see nipples on that anime girl..

If "It's the story that counts," what happens when there's no story..

Sexism in anime, what do you guys think?
I was raised to be indifferent in gender. (although my attraction falls towards the female sex.. meaning that I'm heterosexual.) But that isn't the point I'm trying to make..

Do you think there is sexism in anime?
I often see it.. Many shounen anime have the male characters as the most dominant characters.. Even though they sometimes have kickass girls who fight, they're almost always used as support characters.. "Dragon Ball, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece" one of the reasons I dislike them..
On occasions it's the opposite direction towards magical girl manga, where there are few or almost no male characters at all..

Romances go both ways a lot of the time, but sometimes, even they may be sexist..

It's alright to think that way for olden times when women still had no rights.. But equality is lacking for anime that are placed in modern times...

I think this is true..

yeah you`re riht,but claymore isn`t a magical girl anime,and they`ve got females to fight

Well, I guess I don't mind Claymore as much because there's not many anime where girls fight through physical means though..

and theres a story to it but the fan service over shadows the story that well....sucks!....

remember this....life fails....sex and drugs sells.....if you dont want it go emo.....LOL

Well, most GAINAX anime although there are some sexual things, they don't use sex as a main means of profit.. Rather amazing animation and a difficult to follow storyline..

Ghibli actually targets a lot of anime viewers who are too young to view sexual content.. Or for people who desire a meaningful storyline..
