Heh, this one was a long time in coming, don't ya know? It took me forever to realize that we didn't have a fave manga thread. Well, here it is! I think you all get the gist... But as a side note, what mangas do you think are CLASSICS? We haven't had such a discussion yet. Have fun and say here, if we get enough recommendations I'll add it as a feature on the profile!

Well my favorite is probably Full Metal Alchemist. In my opinion the manga is better than the anime.

I have a lot of favorite manga, but my top 3 would have to be Pastel, Love Hina, Ai Yori Aoshi. All bow down before the love/comedies!!!!! muhahahaha

Ha, definitely. Probably some of the better animes out there as long as they aren't stereotypical of the average animes and actually have something new and different in them.

I have never heard of Pastel, and have not read nor seen Love Hina but probably will at some point in time. I watched the first season of Ai Yori Aoshi quite recently and wasn't too happy with it. I actually stopped before the last three episodes. It bored me half to death because it really wasn't that different from the norm, and besides that I have read quite a few books and have a pretty freak ability to predict endings within the first episode of an anime or in the first chapter or so of a book. So my standards are raised. I guess you could say it wasn't 'surprising' enough for my taste. But Ai Yori Aoshi is notable, your right.

I have all of the Ai Yori Aoshi anime DVDs. The anime was not as well done as the manga in my opinion. Plus they finished the anime different then the manga which kinda screwed up the anime. Pastel is a really great mange (no anime yet that I know of). Great love story and good characters. If you ever get a chance it is worth reading (series still not finished). Love Hina as far as I know is really famous. Great love story and lots of comedie. if you haven't got a chance to read it then you are missing out. Once again tho I feel the manga did way better then the anime. If you ever get the chance to read any, it is worth it.

Lupin III and Akira are a few examples of manga I enjoyed reading. I also enjoyed Urusei Yatsura. I don't read a lot of manga though.

I've looked at Urusei Yatsura a few times now... I don't know if I'd try it or not, going just by what I've seen. I would hope that it's different then my mind guesses it is.

Mangas i've started to read only a few years back and i've been a fan since. My manga list is almost as long as my anime list but my faves would have to be shoujos:
Ai Yazawa: Nana, Paradise Kiss (ParaKiss) and Kagen no Tsuki (Last Quarter of the Moon) <-- potential classics because of the heart-wrenching story and the beautifully drawn characters
Hino Matsuri: MeruPuri, Wanted, Toraware no Minoue and Vampire Knight (thanx to Faith for introducing me to this mangaka's work) <-- very selfishly, i'd vote this mangaka as a classic ^_^
Nishikata Mai: Venus Cappricio
Minami Maki: Special A and You're My Girlfriend
Yuuki Ryou: Shinigami Lovers
Kazuko Furiyama: Bloody Kiss one shots and Ojousama's Orders
Erika Kurahashi: Charisma Doll
Hiyasa Nakajo: Hana Kimi
Yoshitaka Amano: Vampire Hunter D and Sandman's The Dream Hunter (this one is a classic)
Takaya Natsuki: Fruits Basket (truly, a classic one)
Hayakawa Tomoko: Perfect Girl Evolution (Wallflower) <-- a classic, too! Sunako is just adorable.
Ikeda Akihisa: Rosario+Vampire

for older audience:

and many more that i can't think of at the moment.

My vote for most frustrating:
Yuu Watase: Ayashi no Ceres, Fushigi Yuugii and Zettai Karashi (i've only enjoyed reading Absolute Boyfriend and was utterly frustrated beyond the roof with the first two)
Basilisk (i love the Shinobi live action but it's frustrating
)
