A while back when I was with my dad we were talking about racism and he brought up a point that there is, obvioulsy, racism where ever you go but it's closer to us than we think.
Racism exist even within our own race. I am a product of that kind of racism.
Being a light complexioned black girl with long hair, as a child I felt that I was superior to my peers because of that. In the black culture, it is said that, it is much better to be light complexioned, have long STRAIGHT hair, and have caucasian or asian facial features. Yet some black people don't like white people, in particular the police (for whatever reason). How can you want to be something you don't like??
My answer to that: BECUASE IT'S "CONSIDERED" BEAUTIFUL!

Why can't you just have short hair and dark skin and still be beautiful? Well maybe it's becuase all your life people have been telling you are ugly and you look like a monkey! If you are told something long enough you begin to believe it. That is why numerous young black girls have low self esteem becuase they think that they are never good enough for the rest of the world becuase of the way they look.

For example the "video hoes" in hip hop videos most of all of them have one thing in common HAIR WEAVES! If you are black and you have long hair, automatically your put into a catorgory all your own and who would'nt want to be noticed if it is just for one minute? Thats why some black woman spend hours in the hair salon adding fake hair to what they dont have already. Tyra Banks has said it herself, that her biggest issue is "letting her weave go and until then she has a lot to work on." But Thats just the tip of the iceberg! Wanting to be light complexioned and or wanting to have light eyes is another issue.
Why can't we be happy for who we really are and emphasize what we already have? Becuase of Racism within our own race.
My friend says it herself that a guy will automatically like me becuase I look the way I look. Then I think about the things that she does to herself and realize that it is becuase she is the exact opposite of me. Short, dark complexion, and short hair. And she has problems. She may act or think that nothing is worng with her but I know what her problem is. She has low self esteem becuase the way she looks (shes an attractive girl). I want to help her but I can't becuase in my race we do this kind of thing to ourselves. No one else is to blame!

Then again everyone wants to be something that they are not. So there is really NO TRUE answer why poeple want to be something else. It depends on the person and what they have been exposed to. But everything starts at home.

This may not all be true for ALL black people but, I just wanted to make it a point for all those who are ignorant out there. Please do not give me crap about this forum post. If you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all. Just read and move along if your one of those kinds of people. Online bullying is not cool.

What kind of racism do you have within your Race?

I'm sorry honey but not only is this quote full of crap but it is also marginalizing and insulting to both Black and White girls for two main reasons:

1.) You seem to imply that to this day Black girls still suffer from low-self esteem from the so-called "European ideal" from the mainstream media. Actually in recent years it was discovered from psychologists that Whites as a whole suffer more from psychological problems such as low self-esteem, depression, thoughts of suicide, etc, then do Blacks. Blacks, as a whole lead more mentally stable lives and generally have higher self-esteem then Whites do(Hence the stereo type that "Black folks don't need no therapy" XD!)

Also, it was found in recent years that some White girls and to a certain extent Asian girls
tend to emulate the appearance Black female celebrities in the media. There have been a rise in White women getting tans to make their skin lighter, wearing "Black hair styles" such as cornrows, and given lip injections to make their lips larger.(Not to mention that "Ganguro" is fairly popular in Japan as well)

Besides, plenty of Black females are considered attaractive and beauttifull in the mainstream media. Look at Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Naomi Campbell, Aahliyah(Spelling?) Brandy, Destiny's Child, Total, TLC Ashanti, Lisa "Left eye" Lopez, Lauren Hill, etc. Black men are consdered sex symbols as well in the modern media such as Denzel Washington, Usher,B2K, Kobe Bryant, RL from "NEXT." R. Kelly, Samuel L. Jackson etc.

2.) You also seem to imply that ALL White girls are proud of the way they look because of this naive assumption of the "European ideal." That is a very naive and insulting assumption to make of White girls. Believe me, I know PLENTY of White girls who don't like the way they look or suffer from low self-esteem. I know White girls who think their skin is too light, their hair is too blond or straight. I also know White girls who don't like like their freckles or wish to have darker features such as darker hair or darker skin(I actually had to go out of my way to cheer them up! XD). I even know some White girls who met the so-called "ideal" yet wish to have darker features. Actually as a whole I encountered more White girls who don't like the way they look than do Black Girls. That fact is also proven statistically speaking.

I'm really sorry for appearing abrasive but I just had to give my two cents!

well i dunno...i've met a lot of black people who bring each other down. in nyc, since many black people make less money, they're stuck and not that happy because they're poor. and then they eat a lot of fast food because that's all they can afford, so a lot of them are fat. then they feel bad because they're fat.
many black people hurt each other, mentally and physically. if we speak proper english, we're acting white. this has happened to me a lot. i don't fit in with the hood crowd, and i've been told that i speak weirdly. and then they say i need to gain weight when i'm perfectly healthy. the darker black people are teased for being dark, the light ones are teased for being white, and if you're tan, there's something else wrong with you. black people, at least in nyc, will find a reason to put you down.

btw, 90% of my family needs SERIOUS therapy. ._.

Trust me. What I'm saying is the truth. Whites as a whole are more likely suffer from depression and low-self-esteem then do Blacks. Also I've known White girls and White people in general who suffer from low self-esteem. Don't assume that White folk's lives are always happy or they have money. I have a white friend who's family is dirt poor. I also knew a white girl who has a father who is suicidal and a mother who's sick. I knew plenty of white kids who came from broken homes, drink and smoke their sorrows away, engage in promiscous sex, or fail in school.

I'm tired of people who make generalizations like this that "White people's lives are so good, clean and perfect" when the harsh reality totally contradicts that. Believe me, White people are not perfect, don't always have high self-esteem or live easy lives.

I don't know you and so you should probably not talk about people. I'm not as dark as you think I am. First of all that's wig I use for cosplay not something I wear everyday. My family is creole and cherokee indian. So I do have French blood in my veins.

You probably shouldn't talk shit about something you don't know.

I know many kids at my school that would make fun of someone much darker. cause they are ignorant like that. Kinda like how your acting.

So please go and harass someone else.

And African-Americans do think that they are better.

note: My mom was happy that I wasn't born with a big nose, lips and had lighter skin and my hair was soft and wavy. She is constantly keeping me out of the sun so I don't get too dark.

Ur like the first african american person i've seen that got a deep hate for there own kind and how are african americans better then africans they are from africa orginally..theres east africans who are really mixed like somalians and ethopians and you don't see them running around saying i mixed with white..they got better hair then african americans they can grow there hair like white people or watever..and they don't have does features you speak off..yet they don't act superior to any other types of blacks...and most people wouldn't consider your tone light skined...watch tyra banks and you will understand what i'm really saying. AND calling me ignorant ..when you are..looking down on your kind doesn't get you far..If I was really dark skined had the so called bad features you speak of like big nose , course hair. etc I wouldn't care because thats the way god created me and nothing god creates is messed.

What part of what I said implied that I have a deep hatred for black people?

You don't know me, So you don't know what I think or do.

You obviously don't know much about the African-American commuity so I wouldn't expect you too know that most African-Americans have european blood.

Try watching educational programs during black history month or at least read a book. I have more black pride that the black peopIe I know.

I am not white, but I will not deny the fact that my family has a line of european blood. Great great great grandmother had natural green eyes. And how do you expect she got that?

You're being Ignorant because you think I'm hating every black person. But i'm simply implying the truth. Black people have the worse case of hatred when it comes to skin color. Some believe that dark skin is not as attractive as light skin.

I for one find it very beautiful. I adore dark skin.

So don't sit here and make stupid assumptions about me.

And what's this "better hair than african-americans" come from? What hell is wrong with kinky no lice hair that blacks have? See that's another thing black people hate. Their hair....So please don't try to talk down to me.

Lol yep yep, my ex gf was from Hong Kong lol, man the stuff I heard come out of her mouth about mainland Chinese. Sadly in some cases thought what she said had some truth to it though.

I suffer from some racial bias in my dating selections. I've never once dated anyone within my own race, not because don't find all women attractive... (c'mon women have all the things I want xD), but my preferences have lead me to only date women either Chinese ,Japanese, or even Native American. Only once I dated a caucasian girl. I've also experienced being on the other side of the fence too. Some african -american girls have preferences for guys lighter skinned, caucasian, or asian too. Well, as long as we keep mixing up the gene pool I guess.

The answer lies within a song by avenue Q
http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/avenueq/everyonesalittlebitracist.htm

I'm half Black and Half Japanese (Blackenese..represent)
and I love myself and my skin...I think I'm pretty damn awesome thank you very much...but it's when I see my fellow black or japanese people acting a fool that I feel ashamed

Like riding down the street and seeing some "gangster" blast his rap music loud or driving past a traffic accident only to see that a Japanese person was at fault

Most of my japanese relatives are terribly rascist and for some reason in rubs off on me...for instance I have a habit for disliking Chinese people and especially so when some random person tries to mock "chinese" to me..or when I go into a japanesese resturaunts and Thai people are cooking the food..it irks me quite a bit

Most of my african American relatives think I am a freak and don't consider me black b/c i listen to rock music and wear Lolita...so sometimes I'm a little biased toward them too...and when I think about it I only have one black friend (how sad)

I really do love being black and japanese but sometimes the way my races act make me want to curl up in a ball in die

Well, I'm probably not one to be saying this, but don't think of yourself by being half black/japanese, but just as "you". Enjoy the good points of the cultural heritage you've inherited, but ignore the crazy nuts that say you're not "This enough" or "That enough"

Lol I listen to whatever the heck I feel like listening to. I ignore any of my current gf's racist grandparents. And any fool that tells me I sholdn't be rollerskating because I'm this, or listening to Daft Punk etc, because I'm "that", never gets any of my time. I never look at myself in the mirror and think, "Oh look, I'm black". It's more like, "I'm proud to be me". xD

I joke around about my race all the time, but it's with my fellow Hispanics. It's how we play around with each other. example ppl do not take offense the ppl I play around with are my friends not strangers :what a mexican, that was so mexican, and La Migra!, La Migra! run _________(insert friend name) Now if someone really said this to hurt me then I would be ticked off.

I'm dark skinned have long hair but on top of that I'm African. Even though we both basically come from the same place, African American kids always make fun of me. There is racisim among race.

they make fun of you cause you're dark. Simply as that. we African-Americans think that we are better than everyone else, because...we are mixed with european.

ohh no you didn't lady u hellaz dark urself so bitch pleaseeee im african and i ain't even a close to as dark as u are and for the eureopeon nonsense u speaking about i don't see non on you or ur rag doll weave hoeee

Lady Im not talking down to you or making assumptions, I just writing on based on what I read from your posts above ok? and one good example would be what you wrote previously So how does that make me ignorant

"note: My mom was happy that I wasn't born with a big nose, lips and had lighter skin and my hair was soft and wavy. She is constantly keeping me out of the sun so I don't get too dark."

If you have so much black pride why are typing these things?

You are making assumptions because you believe that I don't like black people.

But that's my mom smart one. Not me!
