Of course not. It'll die. They even said that the 7th book would be the final and last. There's no more need for discussion, really.

Hmm...
Well we know for definite that the 7th one is the last one.
Any follow up by Rowling will obviously be compared to her HP books.
The chances of her writing some story spin off are quite likely..maybe a set of books about Ron?
After all I don't think she's quite so ready to let go of the story that's made her so much money.

There are still the rest of the movies, and JKR is going to be releasing an encyclopedia within the next few years that'll provide background/more information about characters/events/items/creatures/etc that she wasn't able to fit into the books.

JKR did what parents have tried to get their kids to do for centuries read books
with this series kids would not only read the books theyd fantasize and beg for more
lines would start in book stores and would stretch out the door and around the block once only heard of in electronic stores for gaming systems and their video games
this woman did not just make a wildly popular series and make millions she changed the World
as for the likely hood of a 8th book i wouldnt hold my breath by spin offs are another story. id expect to see at least 2 spin of series of hogwarts and the harry potter wizarding universe

^ no it won't be popular forever.. it will be popular in this century

Honestly, I don't like Harry Potter, but I think at least for another ten years it WILL be popular. You have to admit, it is orginal, even if you don't like it. If there is a spin off, that will only mean that is indeed going to be noticed for a few more years. Though insteed of Harry Potter, I prefer to read Negima and watch The Familiar Of Zero, because I think they are much, much, much better.

But that is just my option, for all we know JKR might very well make another series of Harry Potter and make even MORE money.

I disagree. That series is the third best-selling series in history. Think about all the other books that are hundreds - and even thousands - of years old that are still being talked about and read today. I think Harry Potter will definitely still be recognized hundreds of years down the road.

Also, DH holds the record for the fastest selling book ever.

While I do agree with you that Harry Potter is well known series, eventually there will be a decrease of people who even know about it. Because as time goes by, there will be newer stories that will interest people. Lord of The Rings was popular but then after a few years, I've noticed not many people talk about it, much less know what it is.

While Harry Potter was orginal, orginality can only go so far.

..I'll repeat what I said before: it's the third best-selling series of all time. Other best-selling books/series include the Bible, Star Wars, To Kill a Mockingbird, Gone With the Wind, The Catcher in the Rye, etc. They've been around for many, many years (and in the case of the Bible, thousands of years) and I have yet to come across someone who has never heard of them.

I think it will probably not have an eighth book O.o It might probably become a classic book for classroom use like for novel studies or something.
