I asked... Are you comparing Harry Potter with the Bible?..
And that's clearly a Yes or No question.

i didnt even read the rest of the thread and i just saw this question and it made me laugh. lol first thought-uh oh who starting shit. LOL this thread is on my to watch list.

and i doubt harry potter will last. its a great story, but to achieve the title "classic" takes more than just awards and movies. it has to have replay value HAH. but i guess we'll see.

^ Deathly Hallows :)

Eh? Deathly Hallows holds the record for the fastest selling book??

yep. It sold something like 11 million copies in the first 24 hours.

Dang that is good. I'd love to be working in the book store that sold of those copies. Just so you know, I was just explaining my point, I was not arguing with you at all. Sorry if it sounded that way.

So what if it's the best selling book ALL TIME? If there are no more new stories of Harry Potter coming out, there is no more excitement of waiting. As time goes on, there will be a new serie of books that will be as popular as Harry Potter now. After all the HP movies come out, the people who talk about HP will be less

sigh. Going back to what I've already said (what's this, the third time?) the majority of the best-selling books of all time are old. A lot are from the 1900s, though there are obviously some from before then and the best-selling book of all time, the Bible, is over 2,000 years old and yet people still gobble it up like crazy. These books are best-sellers for a reason - they've been able to stand the test of time and are still relevant decades, centuries, even thousands of years later.

I understand those books have withstood the test of time, but as we all know, To Kill a Mocking Bird, the Bible, Catcher of the Rye etc, are ALL non-fiction. Eventually there will be another series even more popular than Harry Potter and even more fantasy based. Every year there are tons of new fictional stories that are orginal like Harry Potter, eventually people will want more than magic.

I know To Kill a Mocking Bird was a great book, I've read it and seen the movie, and I know that book is quite old, but since it is realistic and not fictional, it probably won't be forgotten. In about ten years maybe more or less, the excitment of Harry Potter will go down.

I dunno about you... but To kill a mocking bird and Catcher in the Rye are both works of fiction.

I'm not gonna argue about the bible cause... we all have our own views on it.

mm yea i just caught that. To Kill a Mocking Birf and Catcher in the Rye are fiction, just different genre. for a work to be..non fiction itd have to be a documentary..of biography or the sort. though the two are based on a time that happened and some major events are highlighted in the story, i believe the characters are all made up.

& I was trying to explain mine: the fact that that series has sold hundreds of millions of copies means that it will indeed be sticking around for years to come. Unless, of course, you know of some book that's sold that many copies and then faded away into obscurity within a decade.

The Harry Potter books will be a trademark. I agree with lokita that it will remain for a while.

Too bad the Redwall series was never too popular <3

With time passing, book will fade out because newer books will pop out.

The bible isn't popular. People just need it to attend church. The rest use it as a fancy teastand.

Or do what my friend did. Cut a box in the middle of a bible and hid your jewelry there. Because no one will look in the bible...

All right, lets all say Harry Potter will be around for a long time and stop arguing. We all have our options, so let's leave it at that.

JK Rowling said she might be writing a Harry Potter encyclopedia, where every single question would be answered, and some background info on unknown characters... but that's not until WAY WAY later into the future.
