People like DDR for the same reasons that anyone would like a FPS or an RPG. Because its fun to them.

DDR is a way for people to have a sense of rythmn, style, basic exercise and fun. Usually for people who likes music or dance. I think it's like otakus. People who are totally into anime, branch out into all sorts, people who watch anime ALL DAY, people who write fan fics, people who start fanclubs, shrines, people who make anime videos, people who cosplay. From the outside, the cosplayers are the most obvious; taking the stares and mumbles, some people think it's embarrassing. Compare this to a fan fic writer. Would you discriminate as badly the writer? Who can tell the writers from the outside anyway?

Then the anime lovers usually like games as well. Avid gamers also branch into many types, LAN games, like Counter Strike, MMORPGs, Handheld portables like Nintendo Wii, DS, PSP, etc, non portables, PS3, XBox, computer games, online games, and arcade games. It's just that DDR and Parapara are the most expressive, therefore making it as a passe trend, that's why it's easier to think it's more embarrassing. What makes it any different from playing a simple online tetris game from an MMORPG like WOW or silkroad? It doesn't make it any less a form of gaming. It's just that gamers make playing games their lifestyle, that is what makes them a gamer. I wouldn't think it's dumb, it's simply another form of gaming which they like.

As for lame, it can only attribute to players playing it. If they suck, their performance is lame, not the game.

I really love Dance Dance Revolution. We have a crappy version here in the Uk; Dancing Stage EuroMix. And it's just rubbish!! I can say this knowingly now as when I visited Italy at the star of April, I found a Dance Dance Revolution Extreme machine!! And it was AWESOME! Image I officially want a Dance Dance Revolution Extreme machine for my house....

DDR gives you a great workout while having fun. One 5 minute dance can burn 70 calories. Who wants to go to a gym and work your ass off while not having fun? My friend managed to lose 25 pounds over Winter Vacation by playing DDR everyday. Besides, it's fun when you play/challenge friends, sure beats chess or monopoly. Image

My friends don;'t really like it but they are amazed how some people are. You know..some people play with 2 pads 0.o which is crazy..

I find it fun at times...if I don't lose my concentration xD

I find DDR mad. As in leg exercise mad. I can't do ANYTHING with that dance pad. I can do lots with the keyboard. It gives me more satisfaction.

It pains me to see that when I can actually easily HIT the keys with a keyboard, but I can't because I'm on a dance mat and I'm not fast enough pisses me off.

I'm not addicted to the game, but its pretty fun. My cousin has the DDR game for his PS2 and so whenever I visit him, I would play a bit. Its funny because our parents would even try it out. Its a game for basically any age to enjoy. Also, you have to move around rather than sitting and staring at a screen the entire time.
