All Gamers! Need some help!! :(
Posted 3/11/08 , edited 3/11/08
Okaaay! I'm soon finishing off my 2nd year at College studing "Games Development" we've been given a 3 month (or something) project "The FMP" (Final Major Project) *Gasps* Indeed. Basically how we're starting off is getting the research and feedback and such out of the way first to help us develop our game idea, and seeing as there are so many gamers who have different interest in genres this'll help me alot!

If you can please copy the following and fill it out afterwards, writing in as much detail as possible! (if you struggle then it's ok, don't worry. )

Gender: (Male/Female?)

Age: (Current age)

Consoles you own: (List all that you own)

What Genre interests you: (List all that apply. For example: Action, Adventure, Shoot’em up, RPG, RTS, Puzzle, Sports, Beat’em, Simulation/God Games.)

What Certain "aspects" of a game pulls you in? (Only choose 3 of the following, explaining what interests you most about it and placing it in order of most interest. Examples are: Sound & Music, Characters, Customisation, Multiplayer, Storyline, Lifespan, Difficulty, Graphics, Cinematic Sequence, Other (If other please state)

The text written in brackets are there just to help you! :O My group consists of 5 people (including myself) Each one of us have completely different skills, like i for example am an artist so i'll be working on the genreal concept art, environments and such as well as helping with the storyline, blah blah.. We've all had very different ideas on how we're going to start off with the game and we ended up with combining all of our ideas together, which lead to one thing to another!! One very last question:

Would a prehistoric role-playing game which goes very in-depth in character control and environmental friendly (this is somewhat a small fraction to what’s featured in the game) appeal to you? If so what do you expect to see in the game style, if not then why doesn’t it interest you?

By prehistoric we're talking waaay back! i suppose you can kinda imagine the cavemen style.. or even Conan but it'll be different and better! ofc we'll be adding a twist with our imagination and such. : P Think of Mel Gibsons "Apocalypto" or whatever its called. A style like that.

Environmental friendly, what i meant by this was.. clearly that was the incorrect use of words for what i was trying to imply. We'll be trying to implement different strengths of weather at random points (idea) and depending on the weather it could destroy certain villages, houses, basically we want to implement realism to the game, ugh i don't wanna go too indepth but i hope you get the gist!

____________________________________________________________

Once again! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR HELPING! it means alot and i appreciate it!! maybe one day when i end up working with Blizzard or Square enix i could mention the certain members of crunchyroll! members which helped me develop my idea in to something greater! once again, thanks alot for helping, if you have any questions please do ask. : )

And one more thing! near the end of the course, when all the different groups come together and pitch there game ideas, we've been told a game company like EA or some other company would be there to watch and, well.. hmm i'd still need to get things clear on this matter.. but ya!! *flees*

Interactive natural environments, able to extremely modify your character... I would consider that heaven.

What Certain "aspects" of a game pulls you in? Storyline - Without a storyline or plot, I wouldn't have enough interest to finish the game
Characters - Same goes for characters I can fall in love with and care about what happens to them
Gameplay/controls - Obviously how it handles will depend on if I want to play or replay

Xbox360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PSP, Nintendo DS, and the N64.

What Genre interests you:
I’m mostly interested in RPG’s.

What certain "aspects" of a game pulls you in?

For a game to pique my interest and pull me in it would need to have a good storyline, multiplayer (cooperation multiplayer that is), and well developed characters.

Would a prehistoric role-playing game which goes very in-depth in character control and environmental friendly (this is somewhat a small fraction to what’s featured in the game) appeal to you? If so what do you expect to see in the game style, if not then why doesn’t it interest you?
When I think of prehistoric I image a 2D environment with poor graphics. I would have to say that no, it would not appeal to me even if the characters are extremely well developed or if the environment did attain an extreme level of realism. I would however enjoy a new game with those aspects, though many would.

Hope you get enough info from people to finish your project.

What Genre interests you: All types... if its fun ill play it...

What Certain "aspects" of a game pulls you in? (only 3 ? goin kinda be hard but...) 1. Storyline... you need a good storyline... it also has to come together from beginning to end... or else it wouldnt make sense and ppl wouldnt finish it or get the squeal... it has to mesh with the characters 2. Sound & Music... i mean you cant have a good game without sound & music... it would be like playing the game with no volume... you might miss some important parts and wut not... AND it wouldnt be as shiet... cant think of the word... so ill jst explain... say you playing you do a move where something BIG BLOWS UP with out the right sound or music you would get a reaction of BUT with sound you COULD get a reaction of and so on and so on... 3. Graphics... 2D is old school... no one wants to play a game thats 2D ( with and xception to super paper mario where it goes from 2D to 3D to 2D )... ppl now a days wants something so real its like ur actually watching tv or a movie or somthing
i thinks dats it i would have added more BUT you said " Only choose 3 of the following "
if u need more input... holla at cha boi...

Age: 20

Consoles you own: Dreamcast, PS2, and PS3.

What Genre interests you: Action, RPG, and Adventure.

What Certain "aspects" of a game pulls you in?
1. Character
You can't really have a good game unless the character for one appeals to the audience. No one wants to play a character or see the main character look really ugly or have a really nasty personality. It throws the whole game off.

3. Storyline
The storyline would have to come second because I hate games that have no storyline at all. A game can have great graphics, great gameplay, but if it lacks a story then it's pretty much an empty shell. A storyline is what brings a game to life, without that you might as well just make a hack n slash game with no real purpose but to just...well hack n slash.

2. Sound and music
The sound and music is very important to the game. Every music that goes into a game should be easy to the ears. If the music were really annoying, then I wouldn't want to play or I would just mute the game causing me to not want to play it. Final Fantasy is a very good example of what really good music and sound is all about.

These are the three which I figured were most important out of all the other aspect, but I think this isn't a very good reply to you since a game needs a little of everything to be complete. Everything should be important. There is no most important and less important because if a game lacks something, the it's just not going to appeal to some people. I think it's impossible to make a perfect game, but every aspect about a game pulls me in and is very important.

Would a prehistoric role-playing game which goes very in-depth in character control and environmental friendly (this is somewhat a small fraction to what’s featured in the game) appeal to you? If so what do you expect to see in the game style, if not then why doesn’t it interest you?
I'm a big RPG guy and maybe you should give this idea a try. It does appeal to me somewhat because I'm curious as to how you guys are going to go about making this game. If this game was to be made I would expect an easy and efficient way of gaining experience for the main character not only that, but also a wide area for one to explore. The battle system has to be simple to understand, but should have some interesting features to it as well. More than that I really can't think of anymore, but I hope this helps you out! Good luck!

Age: 18, going on 19

Consoles you own: GBA, Nintendo DS, PSP, Xbox 360

What Genre interests you: Action, First person shooter, RPG, Rhythm games, Beat'em up.

What Certain "aspects" of a game pulls you in? Storyline, sound and music, graphics. It is always important to have a storyline otherwise it would seem like you're playing aimlessly, without any goal in mind. =) As for sound and music, i'm an audiophile so i'm extremely sensitive to music. Graphics are important as for first person shooter games, the graphics have to be good to enable you to have acuuracy and speed.

Would a prehistoric role-playing game which goes very in-depth in character control and environmental friendly (this is somewhat a small fraction to what’s featured in the game) appeal to you? If so what do you expect to see in the game style, if not then why doesn’t it interest you? It seems like a great idea. i agree with yagami87 on the battle system. Go for it! =)

Genres: Action, Adventure, RPG, Blood/Gore violence.

Aspects: Story (obviously) Battle system, and Audio settings. I can't play a game with a stupid story or no story at all (whats the point?), I'm iffy about battle systems, I want it to be balanced and fun (DAMN YOU GRANDIA SERIES! [lol jk]) And I don't want to play a scary game where I'll die and 10 minutes after I restart my character does his "UHUHUHUH!" death cry and I want it to be realistic.
