I just finish watching the 'Olympic Adventures of Fuwa' which is 100-episode cartoon series of "Olympic Adventures of Fuwa" this has been a hit since its debut on August 8 2007. Both children and adults are showing strong interest in it. With creative ways, the series presents in humor the sport culture, the "New Beijing Olympics" together with Chinese cultural elements.

'The story takes place in a common Beijing household. Before the opening of the 29th Olympic Games in 2008, the 8-year-old boy Da You, received a birthday gift from his parents, the five Olympic mascots Fuwa.

Skillfully combined with humorous tales between Da You and the five darlings, the cartoon series introduces the history and trivia of the Olympics, as well as Chinese culture and the preparation for the Beijing Olympics.

The first episode was aired on August 8th this year, one year count-down to the opening of the Beijing Olympics.

Since then, the series has been firmly sitting on the throne of TV audience ratings. More surprisingly, figures show that more than 60 percent of the viewers are above the age of 15. Among these adult fans, Ding Yi from Beijing says the cartoon is a good way to promote the Olympic Spirit.

"The cartoon series taught us many new things, at least new for me and these things were told in a lively way. I think the cartoon is nice and humorous, also I can learn more about the Olympics."

Some viewers also favor the traditional cultural elements in the series. Lin Lu says these elements make the series more interesting.

"I have watched the Olympic Adventure of Fuwa, it's very interesting. It's not only for children, adults also love to watch it. The scenes are very colorful. Some of them were drawn using traditional Chinese painting techniques, which are different from foreign-made cartoons. So I am quite interested in it."

Chinese cartoons used to be drawn with traditional ink and washing painting techniques. So it usually takes several years to produce. But in recent decades, Japanese and European cartoons have enjoyed better popularity in China, mostly for their high-tech produced scenes. This made domestic cartoonists realize the importance of combining new technology and foreign cartoon's business operational experiences with traditional Chinese culture.

Jointly produced by Beijing Television Station and Kabu Cartoon, the Fuwa Olympic adventure series is the fruit of the combined efforts of Chinese artists across the straights. Numerous artists from the mainland and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were involved in everything from script writing, to recording the voices for characters as well as music composing.

Zhang Liangying, a singer recently emerged from the Chinese version of American Idol, Super Girls, has lent her voice for Fuwa Yingying.

"I have never dubbed for a cartoon. But I am very interested in it. This was a good chance and the cartoon was so nice, so I decided to have a try. To give out the feeling of a child for Yingying, I have made my voice as lovely as possible."

The cartoon series has been aired on China's railway system since October. Since the 19th of November, the second part of it was staged on Beijing public transportation, including buses, subway trains and taxies. Local passengers and overseas tourists are able to watch the cartoon via 16,000 TV screens across Beijing.

Organizers say they are planning to put the cartoon on screens at other cities' railway stations and trains, even in airports and on planes. In this sense, the Olympic Spirit will be spread to every corner of people's lives.'

Wow. Never heard of it. It looks interesting of course not as expertly animated as Japanese anime, but i am impressed that China was able to make this into 100 episodes.
