The Locust is a great band, falling I suupose in the hardcore/screamo category. Very few other such bands that I have heard use synthesizer so well.

The term Symphonic can be used as both a genre and a subgenre, in Dragonforce's case its a subgenre. From what I've heard the band that sticks out as actual symphonic metal the most is Therion.

Therion... now there is a band I haven't heard mentioned in a loooong time.

Reminds me of Onmyouza, Dragonland, and Nightwish.

I prefer metal that oozes melody, so Therion would fit.

This reminds me... does anyone actually consider Viking Metal a genre of metal? I was wondering this, because I don't think that lyrical concepts a new genre make.

Aside from the lyrics, what would qualify Viking Metal as its own genre?
